1. A Liquid of specific gravity = 0.85 flowing in a pipe of length 10000 ft and

12 in diameter, Q = 1.57 c.f.s. Find the losses in the pipe if the viscosity of
liquid = 0.0021 Ib.sec/ft2.

2. Determine the difference in heads between two tanks connected by a pipe

244 m long discharges 31.2 liters/sec of lubricating oil. The diameter of pipe
is 15 cm and ν of oil = 2.6*10-4 m2/sec.

3. A liquid (S= 0.78, μ = 0.075 poise) flowing in a horizontal pipe 1.5 cm

diameter & 12 m long. Find the maximum velocity required for laminar flow
if Rn critical = 2320. Also find the pressure difference in this condition.

4. 100 gal./min of oil (S = 0.9), μ = 0.0012 Ib.sec/ft 2 flowing through a pipe 3

in diameter & 1000 ft long. Find the velocity at the center of the pipe and the
friction loss. Also find the shear stress and velocity at a distance 1 in from
the pipe’s center.

5. If the pressure difference between the ends of 292 m pipe is 280 Pa, the pipe
transfers an oil (S = 0.89). If the velocity at 2.5 cm from the pipe
wall = 1.2 m/sec. Find the viscosity of oil and the discharge if the diameter
of pipe is 0.125 m.

6. A pipe 300 m long, 8 cm diameter, carrying oil of (S = 0.9) and

viscosity = 0.57 poise, discharging 380 liters/min. find the velocity at
the pipe’s axis, velocity at 2 cm farther, head loss and shear stress at 3 cm
from the axis.

7. Determine the diameter of pipe discharging 0.785 c,f.s of heavy oil if the
loss been 22 ft and the length of pipe 1000 ft. (ν = 0.0021 ft2/sec, S = 0.912).
