SPARK your Interest

This learning Episode provides an opportunity to examine how classrooms are
structures or designed to allow everyone’s maximum participation for
effective learning. You should be able to examine how classroom management
practices affect learning. This Episode enhances the application of the
theories learned in the following professional subject such as Facilitating
Learner-Centered Teaching and The Child and Adolescent Learners and Learning
Principles.

Your Target:
At the end of this Episode, I must be able to:

 Plan on how to manage time, space, and resources; and

 Provide a learning environment appropriate to the learners and conductive

to learning.

REVISIT the Learning Essentials

The classroom climate that is conductive for learning is one that is
non- threatening yet business-like. It is a classroom where, when creating
audio-visual presentations, the following are observed:

 Specific classroom rules and procedures are clear.

 Classroom rules and procedures are discussed within the first few days of
the school.

 Students are involved in the design of rules and procedures.

 Techniques to acknowledge and reinforce acceptable behavior are employed.

 Clear limits for unacceptable behavior are established and negative
consequences for such are communicated.

 Classroom process are democratic.

Activity 5.1 Managing Time, Space and Learning Resources

Subject/Are: TLE Date: Dec 3, 2021

Observe and use the observation sheet provided for you to document your
observations.
1. As you observe the class, investigate the characteristics of the learners.
Note their ages.
2. How many boys are there? How many girls?
3. Focus on their behavior. Are they already able to manage their own
behavior?
4. Can the learners already work independently?
5. Describe their span of attention.

Cooperating School: Lanigay High School

Address: Lanigay High School Polangui, Albay
Date of visit: Dec 3, 2021

We've been allocated to the fourth-year lower section. The students

appeared to be of an age that was inappropriate for the level they were
studying. Some appeared to be adult, while others appeared to be of the
appropriate age. To calculate, there are almost 22 girls and 26 boys in the
class.

Each student's behavior changes depending on their seatmate. If a

student is seated alongside boisterous lads, there is a good chance that
they will be influenced by their actions. They are unable to govern their
own conduct as a result of such encouragement.

The students are unable to function independently as a result of their

habit of seeking assistance from their seatmates on every task they
undertake.

ANALYZE
Analyze and answer these questions on observed classroom management
practices. It is also good to ask the teacher for additional information, so
you can validate your observation. Write your notes below. And then organize
your data in the Table that follows.
1. Are there areas in the classroom for specific purposes (storage of
teaching aids, books, students’ belongings, supplies, etc.)? Describe
these areas. Will it make a difference if these areas for specific
purposes are not present?
Yes. This means storing instructional materials at the faculty office.
The folders and other materials were organized nicely.

2. Are there rules and procedure posted in the room? List them down. Do
these rules reinforce positive behavior?
The procedures and rules are posted right next to the door. According
to what I've read, it's about general standards for students to follow
in order to keep the classroom clean and tidy. The daily routines that
the pupils should follow are also written there.

3. Did the students participate in making the classroom rules? If the

Resource Teacher is available, ask him/her to describe the process.
What’s the effect of students’ participation in rule-making on
student’s behavior?
Yes. Every time the teacher decides about the room's rules and
procedures, the student must also be present.

4. What are the daily routines done by the Resource Teacher? (Prayer,
attendance, assignment of monitors, warm-up activities, etc.) How are
they done?
Every student participates in prayer as part of their spiritual
formation. They recite it fluently, asking God's guidance from on high.
They do the attendance and assignment monitor after the prayer, but
there are no warm-up exercises.

5. Is there a seating arrangement? What is the basis of this arrangement?

Does this help manage the class?
They have a complicated seating configuration. Students have had no
fixed seats since the students-moveis program was instituted at the
school.
6. Observe the noise level in the classroom. How is this managed?
The teacher just tells the student to listen in order to control the
noise in the room. As a result, the student simply stops making noise.
However, after a few minutes, the student would start making noise
again.

7. If a learner is not following instruction or is off-task, what does the
Resource Teacher do? Describe the behavior strategies used?
"Who in the class can help him?" the teacher simply asked. ", and then
let the student go.
seat.
8. What does the Resource Teacher do to reinforce positive behavior?
(Behavior or strategies).
To promote the student's positive behavior, the teacher never shows too
much admiration for him, so that her other students aren't jealous. She
also doesn't want her students to believe that their teacher favors one
of the students over another.

Notes on observations:
Mrs. Jonalyn C. Sablaon, was an excellent educator. She knows how to be a
great teacher and role model for her students. She ensures that she does not
trample on any student's ego when it comes to her teaching tactics.

REFLECT
Reflect as a future teacher.
1. Why do you need to enforce positive discipline?
Children are taught to be responsible and respected members of their
communities through positive discipline. What are the benefits of using
positive discipline? Children are wired to connect with others from
birth, and those who feel connected to their family, school, and
community are less likely to misbehave.

ANALYZE
1. How The classroom organization and routines affect the learner’s
Behavior.
The learner's conduct is influenced by the classroom's organization and
routine. They can enhance their talents to be a responsible member of
their group with the support of the organizations they have. Daily
practices such as praying can help children develop their spiritual
lives and become decent citizens of society.

2. What should the teacher have in mind when she/he designs the classroom
organization and routines? What theories and principles should you have
in mind?
Every decision that a teacher makes has an impact on her   students, thus
before she decides, she should consult with her students first. On a
design, she should consider the learners' maturation and level of

5|Page
understanding so that they can become more productive citizens of
society with the help of scholastic motivation.

3. Which behavior strategies were effective in managing the behavior of the

learners? In motivating students? Why were they effective?
Corporal punishment is not the answer to managing each student's
conduct; instead, morals and religious concepts must be included. The
teacher should be aware that there are some restrictions beyond this
when encouraging children. It is easier to discipline a youngster who
believes in the Supreme God since to be afraid of wrongdoings is to be
afraid of God.
REFLECT
Reflect on the following and write your insights.
1. Imagine yourself organizing your classroom in the future. In what grade
year level do you see yourself? What routines and procedures would you
consider for this level? Why?
I'd like to teach senior high students to help them to shape themselves
in preparation for their key college years. I would impose a stringent
no-cheating policy for them to be able to answer their examinations
independently at college and to motivate themselves in real-life
situations.

2. Make a list of the rules you are likely to implement in this level. Why
would you choose these rules?
 There will be no cheating, so kids can work independently on their
own.
 Second, be neat since neatness aids students in their concentration
when studying.
 Third, be friendly since friends are someone you can lean on when
you're having difficulties.

3. Should learners be involved in making the class rules? Why?

Yes, students should be involved in the creation of class rules. The
class is a part of the legislative council within the classroom, so the
teacher should enlist the support of students while drafting class
rules. However, it is the instructor's responsibility to defy what
everyone agrees is incorrect.

LINK Theory to Practice
Direction: Read the items given below and encircle the correct answer.
1. Focusing on natural consequences of students’ behavior develops more self-
regulation in the students. Which of the following teacher demonstrates
focusing on natural consequences?
A. “Those who were noisy today during seatwork will not be allowed to
play games in the computer later.”
B. “If it takes you longer to finish the seatwork because time is
wasted with chatting, then we won’t have time to go to the
playground anymore.”
C. “Those who are well-behaved in class will be given plus 5 points in
the quiz.”
D. If you get a grade of 95 or higher in the first two assignments,
you will be exempted from the 3rd assignment.
2. Learners are more likely to internalize and follow classroom rules when
_______.
A. the teacher clearly explains the rules she prepared
B. the teachers know the punishments for not following the rules
C. the learners participate in the rule-making process
D. the teacher gives additional points for those who follow the rules
3. For a teacher to establish and maintain consistent standards of learners’
behavior, they should do all EXCEPT __________________.
A. give immediate feedback to reinforce appropriate behavior of
learner.
B. be open to exceptions each time a learner misbehaves in class
C. communicate and enforce school policies and procedures clearly and
consistently
D. handle behavior problems promptly and with due respect to learners’
rights
