1. To enable good discussion among groups, we need to find ways to resolve conflicts
or reduce the occurrence of conflicts. In good discussions, conflicts sometimes arise.
If such conflicts are vague, they may cause ongoing trouble. Here are some of their
solutions: If the solution depends on certain facts, the coordinator can ask participants
to refer to the text or other authority. If there is an experimentally verified answer, the
coordinator can use this opportunity to review the method of determining the answer.
The facilitator can list the parties to the dispute on the blackboard. The host can act as
the host to prevent participants from interrupting each other or speaking at the same
time. She or he can set basic rules for the discussion, such as asking participants to
focus conflict on ideas rather than people, and avoid making judgments ("Tips on
Facilitating Effective Group Discussions | Sheridan Center | Brown University",
2021).

2. To avoid potential ‘saboteurs’, according to the text book, we can try to keep
bringing the group back to task when the group seems to divert time and attention by
complaining about shortcomings of the task or the nature of the group. Also,
sometimes groups bounce from topic to topic without an agenda or clear goals to
guide their work (Rodman & thompson, 2019). They value one another’s
collaborative capacity, but struggle to actualize real change. To solve this, we can set
the agenda before the meeting and stick to it. Identify a strong facilitator to guide
collaboration and keep the group completing tasks. Consider using the group’s goals
to formulate each agenda to maintain a consistent focus on the collective priorities.
