SLIDING WINDOW

MATERIALS
▪ Sliding windows are most commonly made from
timber, aluminium or PVC, each of which have their own
benefits. Timber sliding windows look great and you can
showcase the natural beauty of timber or paint it to
whatever colour that you desire.

ADVANTAGES
▪ Low Maintenance – These windows are built with fewer
parts than other conventional windows. This aspect
makes them low maintenance as well as being cost
effective for homeowners like you.
▪ Durability – Pulleys or even springs wear and fail over a
time period. Slider windows do not rely on these
particular components to open; most windows of this
style also use glazing that adds to their durability.
▪ Energy efficiency – Because these windows do use
quality window glazing, they’re very energy efficient.
The end result will be more money in your pocket, less
money paid out to your energy bills.

DISADVANTAGES
▪ We will find that cleaning the inside of the window is
very easy. But cleaning the outside can be quite
challenging, especially during those cold winter months.
Unlike the other types of conventional windows that can
be tilted and lifted so they can be easily cleaned from
the inside of your home very easily, slider windows do
not tilt for easy cleaning access. If ease of cleaning is
near the top of your list in window characteristics, you
may want to choose another style, such as a casement
window.

CASEMENT WINDOW
Casement window, earliest form of movable window, wood or
metal framed, with hinges or pivots at the upright side of the
vertically hung sash, so that it opens outward or inward along
its entire length in the manner of a door. One frame, separately
movable, of such a window is called a casement sash.

ADVANTAGES
▪ Casement windows come in a large variety of designs,
sizes, and materials. They work well when combined as
part of a larger window installation, such as in bay, bow,
or French windows.
▪ Casement windows are one of the most energy-efficient
windows. The sash creates an airtight seal against the
window frame when closed making it hard for air to get
through.
▪ Casement windows are an excellent way to ventilate due
to opening from the side.
▪ Casement windows also provide unobstructed views
since the window is made up of one sash.

DISADVANTAGES
▪ You cannot install window air conditioners into
casement windows due to the windows cranked
outward. Air conditioners need windows which slide up
and down to secure a window conditioner unit.
▪ Casement windows, in most cases, cannot have screens
or storm windows. Since the casement window opens
outward screens and storm windows would get in the
way and stop you from being able to open the window.
▪ You’re somewhat limited on window sizes with casement
windows due to casement windows opening outwards.
The sash has to be light enough that the window frame
can support the weight while open.
