“General Proficiency Courses Basket”

About General Proficiency Course

“General Proficiency, at its base, refers to the ethics of a person regarding his/her dealings
with their work environment. It is imperative to understand what the terms
‘General Proficiency’ means before concluding its positive as well as negative impacts.
Proficiency-based or competency-based learning refers to systems of instruction,
assessment, grading, and academic reporting that are based on students demonstrating
understanding or mastery of the knowledge and skills they are expected to learn as they
progress through their education. In most cases, proficiency-based systems use state
learning standards to determine academic expectations and define “proficiency” in a given
course, subject area, or grade level. To complement the graduate student interest/hobby like
Photography, Drama, sports etc and proficiency like presentation skills, Ethics,
communication etc to enable a student to become a better learner
a General Proficiency courses are offered at university level."

A Basket of General Proficiency courses will be offered in CU with credit to a undergraduate


student pursuing any program in order to compliment proficiency to enable a student to
become a better learner. 4 Courses for 3 year program and 6 courses for 4 year Program,
applicable only for UG.
Student need to choose one option (as stated below) for the award of one credit for this
general proficiency course.

Option1: General proficiency course.


Students need to complete course that are available on https://www.saylor.org/ and earn a
certificate. Following General Proficiency courses basket is introduced for the upcoming
semester/ Batch 2021 ODD semester who opt ‘Option1’, students need to complete any one
course out of the below mentioned list that are available on https://www.saylor.org/ and earn
a certificate.
The List of courses is attached as below:

Process for Registration of the Course & General Guidelines

The following process will be adopted for the registration, completion of course and
credit transfer for those who opt ‘Option1’:-
Step 1. Students will be registering into one of the courses as mentioned above through
https://www.saylor.org/
Step 2. The MOOCs coordinator/mentor of the respective department will be Single point of
Contact (SPOC) to the students for any queries. MOOCs coordinator/mentor to ensure the
registration in respective course and closely monitor the complete registration process.
Step 3. Students need to follow the instructions as mentioned in the MOOCs platform
regarding the teaching learning process of the course. Students need to complete their
weekly learning process as per the course instruction along with assessments / assignments
/ Tasks if any.
Step 4. Students can access the study material or any other course related information
available in the MOOCs platform itself.
Step 5. During Course registration, the MOOCs coordinator/mentor will collect the
information / undertaking from the students regarding the choice of Option 1.
Step 6. Student should adhere to the deadlines regarding the course wise assessments
mentioned in the MOOCs platform.
Step 7. The Student will upload the certificate on CUIMS after completion of the course.
Respective department MOOC coordinator/mentor will compile the certificate with grade
awarded to student after successfully completing the final assessment of selected course at
https://www.saylor.org/ and submit the same to the office of CoE, after recommendation of
Moderation committee, chaired by respective ED and University MOOC Coordinator and
approved by Office of Dean Academic Affairs.
Step 8. The grading system for Saylor courses will be weighted as follows:

Step 9. University MOOC, CU coordinator will inform student and Dean Academics Affairs
office if any discrepancy observed.
Step 10. The University MOOC Coordinator will submit all the original documents in a bound
volume to CoE for preserving as a record for all future purposes and maintain the photocopies
with the office of Dean Academics and university MOOC coordinator.
Or
Option2: Credit Transfer from Pre Earned Credit Program.

Student who has completed the pre earned credit course, student can opt direct credit
transfer before commencement of the semester.
Process for Registration of the course
The following process will be adopted for the registration, completion of course and credit
transfer for those who opt ‘Option2’:-
1. The results associated with PECP courses for each CUCET Id will be forwarded to office
of Dean Academic Affairs and Controller of Examination along with account numbers of
students for tacking on CUIMS by CUCET Department.
2. The credits will then be made available on CUIMS account of students through COE office
in PECP credit portal through tracking from result sheet as sent using account numbers.
3. 2 credits (max.) will be awarded to each student who has successfully COMPLETED the
PECP certification course. The credits will not be granted to students with participation
certificates awarded through PECP courses.
4. The credits as reflecting on CUIMS account of students in PECP credit portal of students
can be redeemed by the students in General Proficiency Course for students with subject
codes as follows:

5. The redemption credits will be limited to 1 credit per semester only. Student can redeem
only 1 credit in a semester. The redeemed credits will show up in the subject code of General
Proficiency Course and balance credits will show up in the CUIMS account of students in
PECP credit portal.
6. In-line, with further extension of Sr. No 5, the student can redeem maximum 2 credits only.
7. Once the credits are redeemed for particular course, the transfer or reverse reinstatement
of credits will not be allowed.
8. The grading system for all PECP courses will be given by PECP office to COE.
Or
Option3: Proficiency course under DSW
Those students who are enrolled in General Proficiency Basket courses under DSW
(Cultural/Sports/Event Management/NCC/NSS/ISR/club activities) can earn credits by
following the “Rubrics for assessment (21GPT121) under DSW Domain”.
Step 1. A notification shall be called by DSW regarding the enrolment of NCC program the
selection of students for this program will be entirely based on the notification of NCC. Under
this NCC program students will undergo training as per annual training plan of DGNCC
through respective Army, Navy, Air units/Battalion headquarter.
Step 2. Attend Institutional Training & Camps as per annual training programme of respective
wings (Army/Air/Navy).
Note: Institutional Training: 120 hrs (Theory), 180 hrs (Practical’s) Total Training: 300 hrs
spanning 03 years of NCC Training.
Step 3. The “Rubrics for assessment (21GPT121) under DSW Domain”, will be followed and
final assessment will be provided by NCC, CU officer to COE.

FOR NSS

Step 1. The students will be enrolled under NSS wing, Chandigarh University and will go through community
development activities in NSS adopted villages/respective residential localities.
Step 2. Phase-1 is training and counselling on community development activities by experts and NSS
program officers.
Step 3. Field visits, related assignments and community development projects on identify areas of
community development and social improvement is cover in phase-2.
Step 4. The “Rubrics for assessment (21GPT121) under DSW Domain”, will be followed and final assessment
will be provided by NSS, CU officer to COE.

Cultural/Sports/Event Management/ISR/club activities
Cultural/Sports/Event Management/ISR/club activities
Step 1. The students will be enrolled in various events (Cultural/Sports/Event
Management/ISR/club activities) under DSW office during the semester.
Step 2. The student will participate in respective aforementioned activity during the semester
under the guidance of DSW.
Step 3. If any club activities included under general proficiency and authenticate by DSW,
the department club coordinator of the respective department will be Single point of Contact
(SPOC) to the students for any queries. Department club coordinator to ensure the
registration in respective event and closely monitor the complete registration process under
DSW office.
Step 4. The “Rubrics for assessment (21GPT121) under DSW Domain”, will be followed and
final assessment will be provided by DSW office to COE.

Or
Option4: Certification course on Social and Emotional Learning by UNESCO MGIEP
and Life University, USA

Process for registration of course

The following process will be adopted for the registration, completion of course and credit
transfer for those who opt ‘Option4’:-

Step 1. Students need to enrol into a course entitled Social and Emotional Learning at
https://mgiep.unesco.org/seek.
Step 2. The department MOOCs coordinator of the respective department will be Single point
of Contact (SPOC) to the students for any queries. MOOCs coordinator to ensure the
registration in respective course and closely monitor the complete registration process.
Step 3. Students need to follow the instructions as mentioned in the MOOCs platform
regarding the teaching learning process of the course. Students need to complete their
learning process as per the course instruction along with assessments / assignments / Tasks
if any.
Step 4. Students can access the study material or any other course related information
available in the MOOCs platform itself.
Step 5. During Course registration, the MOOCs coordinator will collect the information /
undertaking from the students regarding the choice of Option 4.
Step 6. Student should adhere to the deadlines regarding the assessments mentioned in the
MOOCs platform if any.
Step 7. Respective department MOOC coordinator will compile the certificate with grade
awarded to student after successfully completing the final assessment of course at
https://mgiep.unesco.org/seek and submit the same to the office of CoE, after
recommendation of Moderation committee, chaired by respective ED and University MOOC
Coordinator and approved by Office of Dean Academic Affairs.
Step 8. The grading system for UNESCO SEEK course will be defined as follows:

Step 9. University MOOC, CU coordinator will inform student and Dean Academics Affairs
office if any discrepancy observed.
Step 10. The University MOOC Coordinator will submit all the original documents in a bound
volume to CoE for preserving as a record for all future purposes and maintain the photocopies
with the office of Dean Academics and university MOOC coordinator.
