1.What is something you know?

I know that it is easier for a wealthy family to raise an excellent student. In contrast, it’s hard for a student to be outstanding if he
comes from a poor family

2. How do you know it?

I have read numerous researches, speech, articles and debate online, which told the relating statics that children from wealthy
family are more likely to go to prestigious universities and go to big international company. I also compare the academic
performance of my classmates from good financial backgrounds with those who are relatively poor and get the conclusion even
though they equally work hard. I saw many classmates, even my sister, who was common in China but met the entry to Harvard
university after going to the US, enjoying the most advanced educational resources because her family could support her to go
aboard.

3. How certain is this knowledge?

I feel fairly certain but not 100%. Although I draw the conclusion by absorbing information online and judge by myself by
observing the people around me, but I also see many inspiring stories and news. For example, the book 《educated》tells a real
story that a girl still work very hard to get the bachelor degrees in both philosophy and history in Cambridge even though she did
not receive any education until 17 years old in an extreme religious and poor family. Meanwhile, I cannot guarantee the
reliability of my observation. I could only know my classmates’ performance during the day in school. But when it comes to the
things they do after school, I have no idea. Therefore, maybe those from wealthy family work harder, which proves that how
working hard can be so crucial.

4. How would you know if you were wrong?

I suppose if some researches could show that more excellent students come from poor instead of wealthy family with direct and
strong data analysis. I will know that I am wrong.

1. What is something you thought you knew, but learned you didn’t know?

I previously thought that I am sure philosophy was useless

2. What is something you thought you knew, but learned you didn’t know?

Before senior high, I always think that philosophy is a kind of useless subject. I could not find the value of philosophy like
making any realistic contribution to our society as biology, mathematics and physics. When I went to senior high and start my IB
journey, my advisory teacher recommended me to a philosophy book and asked me to read thoroughly as it will make sense in
my future study. However, I was still suspicious at that time. In the process of reading, I gradually find that philosophy is not that
easy as I image. Actually, it tells the methodology of learning everything in the world. It is never limited as just thinking about
who are you, where are you from and where will you go. The knowledge behind can be related to almost every field such as
science, law economics as well as our politics. After reading that book, I found that my previous attitude towards the value of
philosophy collapsed and rebuilt a completely new one, a new one without utilitarianism for a long time after that, I began to
survey everything around me with philosophical perspective from the way of learning and found it can be applied to everywhere
in your life.

3. Is knowing you don’t know a sort of knowledge?

Yes, of course it is a kind of knowledge. It helps me to know my limitation on theory, methodology and even lifestyle. After
knowing that I do not know, I will try to change my attitude. Changes always bring the improvement. Sometimes if we only learn
the knowledge in class taught by teachers. I am sure we will lose the interest to explore something new.
4. How is it different from another knowledge?

a. It is not a general theory or formula for you to memorize. There is also no examinations for that.
b. I believe that it originates a lot of knowledge, which can really open up your mind and broaden your horizon. Therefore, the
relationship between them is more likely to be mum and children.
