Myanmar Diary from 2025

Myanmar is a country in Southeast Asia and it is also a member of the Association of South East
Asian Nations. In the recent election of Myanmar, which was held in November, 2020, the
incumbent party was victorious and this party is going to rule the country for the next five years.
As a young citizen of Myanmar, I strongly believe that our government will be able to
accomplish significant tasks and make Myanmar a great country in the world within next five
years.

First and foremost, the education sector is very likely to experience remarkable changes. The
Ministry of Education is going to implement a scheme to cancel the current matriculation
examination and extend the high school years in order that the students will be required to attend
up to the twelfth grade. I am convinced that the upgrade plan will be capable of enhancing our
high school qualification to become almost as advanced and effective as internationally accepted
ones such as A-levels. Then, a large number of universities and higher education institutions
around the world will offer many educational opportunities to Myanmar students. In addition, the
quality of our university education will gradually improve. Accordingly, all the graduates from
our universities are going to be highly proficient at their respective subjects and obtain a lot of
job opportunities locally and internationally. Eventually, our people who have received high-
quality education and good work experience will serve our nation and turn it into a developed
country. The possible challenge is that we need to ensure that the new curriculum can easily be
adapted by most of our teachers and students, who are used to the old one.

Secondly, a number of development plans for the health care system are also in progress. As a
result, about 40 hospitals have been opened over the past five years. Furthermore, appropriate
health care has been provided for many citizens, which has led to a dramatic decrease in the
number of patients suffering from fatal diseases such as AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis. Hence,
I certainly believe that there will be a great deal more progress in the future. The health care
systems and emergency services at hospitals are bound to become far more systematic and
efficient with sufficient supplies. We are likely to have efficacious treatments or cures for severe
illnesses such as cancer, which currently accounts for around three percent of all the causes of
death. What is more, when technological advancement becomes rapid in our country, there will
be considerable changes in our medical technology. Thanks to such advancements and the high-
quality education, we might even be able to develop advanced medical laboratories and conduct
our own research for vaccines and cures. On the other hand, the government could encounter
some obstacles when conducting improvements because we have spent a lot of money on health
care owing to the COVID-19 situation.

Another thing to bear in mind is that the economy of our country is on the verge of flourishing
under the administration of the new government. On the basis of the statistics for the past five
years, we can infer that there has been a substantial increase in the quantity of our export
products including agricultural produce and industrial merchandise. Within next five years, our
manufacturing industry is going to expand, which will definitely provide the citizens with
numerous jobs. Moreover, the GDP is going to escalate to a point at which the salaries of the
government employees will increase. These prospective improvements are particularly inspiring
for the people of Myanmar who currently live impecunious lives. The travel and tour industry,
the income from which plays a vital role in our economy, is also going to achieve more success.
Hundreds of more travel agencies have been established in our country over the last five years.
Thus, a growing number of foreign tourists are going to visit our country. Not only will this
situation greatly contribute to the income but it will also promote global awareness for our
country. Despite this, several issues can occur as we expand our economy. The success of our
trade agreements with other countries depends upon our political relationships.

Last but not least, we are about to see noteworthy developments in the infrastructure of our
country. A number of revamp projects have already been executed. For instance, an underground
passage for pedestrians, which can reduce the inconvenience of both drivers and pedestrians, is
being built across Pyay Road. In addition to this, more residential areas with modern
condominiums such as Times City have been constructed. Therefore, it is extremely likely that
there will be more enhancements in the upcoming years. We will almost certainly find more
houses and apartments which are both livable and affordable. As residential areas are going to be
upgraded, nearly every citizen will get access to essential amenities and supplies such as
electricity, fuel, sewerage, food and water regardless of their wealth or poverty. Besides,
transportation will probably be more convenient due to the fact that the government has made
some investments in the Yangon Bus Service. There will also be more overpasses, bridges and
roads to resolve the traffic congestions. For example, the bridge that connects downtown Yangon
and Dala Township is going to be completed soon. However, when we try to build a modern city,
we may need to consider the pollution problems since Myanmar is committed to the Paris
Agreement.

All things considered, my main proposition is that our country will have experienced a great
number of advancements by 2025. I view our future motherland as a nation full of modern
skyscrapers and skyways, a huge variety of job prospects and educational opportunities, highly
efficient health care services, and satisfying quality of life. I also see it as a nation in which
everyone has equal rights and opportunities regardless of their gender, possessions and family
backgrounds. Finally, I certainly believe that it will be one of the greatest countries in the world.
Scholarships not only support students financially in their academic journeys but they also
increase their chances of getting a good job after they graduate.

First and foremost, as scholarships provide students with full or partial funding for their
academic programs, they no longer need to work while studying. Each year, a growing number
of students are working and studying simultaneously to pay their tuitions and living expenses.
Overwhelmed by the strain from their work, these students are unable to focus on their studies
properly. Hence, scholarships help students to pay full attention to their academic programs and
obtain good grades. This can lead to better job opportunities after they graduate.

Secondly, being awarded a scholarship is an attestation to a student’s hard work. Many

scholarship programs are often competitive with thousands of applicants. Most universities
award their scholarships to students whose academic achievements at high school are satisfactory
enough. Therefore, being chosen by a scholarship program over thousands of other applicants
can be a justification of why an employer should choose you.

Finally, winning a scholarship is a great opportunity to get to know clever people. While
studying together with the smart people who have won the same scholarship, we can develop
good friendships in order that we will have contacts in our industry when we start our careers.
This will be significantly beneficial when trying to get a well-paid job.

For all these reasons, I certainly believe that scholarships indeed enhance our chances of getting
a satisfying job.
Nowadays, scholarships have become very popular among students who study abroad. Students
tend to pursue scholarships due to the high university tuitions and fees in the countries where
most students seek to study such as the United Kingdom and the United States.

First of all, I would like to discuss this topic as I am also a university student. I am currently
enrolled in the Pearson BTEC Higher National Diploma in Computing course at Lithan
Myanmar in Yangon. After I have earned my first degree here, I will have to join a foreign
university for postgraduate studies. Thus, I would like to listen to other people’s opinions and
knowledge concerning the benefits of scholarships such as the increase in employment
opportunities.

Another reason why I choose this topic is because I believe it is a good assertion for a debate.
Different people have different opinions about how scholarships can help us. Some people think
scholarships only help us financially to attend university whereas others claim that they can also
promote our learning experience and improve our future job opportunities.

Last but not least, I am convinced that this topic can provide students with ideas that are likely to
become practically useful. We will know more about different purposes of applying for
scholarships and what kind of scholarship program has the potential to increase our employment
opportunities.

All things considered, I certainly believe that this topic is an intriguing and knowledgeable
proposition to discuss and dispute.
As a result of this debate competition, it seems to me that I will grasp many ideas about what
kind of scholarship can boost my job prospects. I strongly believe that these ideas will become
practically useful.

In addition, I look forward to improving my public speaking skills in this competition. I have
always been weak when speaking in front of many people thanks to my low confidence level. By
participating in this competition, I am sure that I will have an opportunity to voice my opinion
related to the given topic and discuss with other people.
