Assignment 2(Dynamics) 15% (Individual work)

Please answer all questions.

1) The elevator E has a mass of 500-kg, and the counterweight at A has a mass of 150-kg.
If the motor supplies a constant force of 5 kN on the cable at B, determine the speed of
the elevator when t = 3 s, starting from rest. Neglect the mass of the pulleys and cable.

2) It is observed that the time for the ball to strike the ground at B is 2.5 s. Determine the
speed, vA and angle, θA at which the ball was thrown.

3) A particle originally at rest and located at point (3 m, 2 m, 5 m), is subjected to an

acceleration of a = [6ti + 12t2k] m/s2. Determine the particle’s position (x, y, z) at t = 1.
4) A particle travels along the curve from A to B in time t1. It takes time t2 for it to go
from B to C and then time t3 to go from C to D. Determine its average speed when it
goes from A to D.

Given:

t1 = 2s, r1 = 10 m

t2 = 4s, d = 18 m

t3 = 3s, r2 = 8 m

5) A ball is launched from point A at an angle of 30°, as shown in Figure 2. Determine

the maximum and minimum speed, VA it can have so that it lands in the container.

6) A volleyball player, as shown in Figure 1, serves the ball with an initial velocity v0
of magnitude 13.40 m/s at an angle of 20° with the horizontal. Determine (a) if the
ball will clear the top of the net, (b) how far from the net the ball will land.

7) The velocities of commuter trains A and B are as shown in Figure 2. Knowing that
the speed of each train is constant and that B reaches the crossing 10 min after A
passed through the same crossing, determine (a) the relative velocity of B with
respect to A, (b) the distance between the fronts of the engines 3 min after A passed
through the crossing.
