CLASS Agent Software Operating Environment Check Sheet
Preface
About CLASS-Agent Software
CLASS-Agent Software is database management software designed to create a link between data
processing application software and a database. It provides various database management
functions and capabilities. Data can be automatically stored in a database that is created in a
format used in general-purpose database applications, such as MS-Access and MS SQL Server
and Oracle. Data stored in the database can be sorted by sample, instrument or user. This makes it
easier for the user to sort analysis/measurement data (analysis/measurement files) that are read
from any Shimadzu chromatogram data processing product (CLASS-VP, LabSolutions) or from
any balance.

With this software, the user can perform an analysis without having to decide where to store
analysis results and what to specify as a filename. The user is able to analyze data stored in a
database, summarize analysis results, and prepare detailed printed reports like test reports,
summary reports, and daily routine reports. These data management capabilities are designed to
relieve the user from the burden of storing and recording data, thereby increasing the efficiency of
routine operations.

In this software, a database can be created in a format used by commercially available

general-purpose database applications. The user is able to create a personalized database using
such application software as MS-Access, MS-Excel and MS-Word.

2.6 How to Setup Windows XP SP2

The user authentication tool and Class-Agent support Windows XP with SP2.
However, if you use a computer running Windows XP SP2 as a database (MSDE or Oracle)
server which is shared among several computers, you will need to change the firewall con-
figuration. There is no need to change the Windows XP SP2 settings for client’s computers. In
addition, when MSDE or Oracle is used as a stand-alone, the setting changes are not required.

To solve these problems and to connect the CLASS-Agent and User authentication tool, perform
the following steps.

2.6.1 Disable the Firewall configuration on a PC

In most companies, firewall programs should already be running on computer systems. In that
case, the Windows firewall configuration is generally unnecessary. (The Windows firewall
provides some protection against attacks when individual users directly access the Internet
without a router. If a router is built in, configure the firewall settings on the router and not on
each separate computer.)
The following instructions detail how to turn off your firewall settings in order to avoid problem
in Windows XP SP2.
Note that this applies to server computers installed with a CLASS-Agent database. There is no
need to apply these settings to other computers connected to analytical instruments.

Procedure
1) Log on to Windows as Administrator.
2) From the “Start” menu, click “Settings” and then “Control Panel”. The Control Panel dialog
box will appear.
3) Open the Windows Firewall. When running in LUNA mode, switch “Control Panel” to
Classic view and open Windows Firewall.
4) Select the “Off [not recommended]” radio button under the “General” tab and click on the
“OK” button.

2-20
2 Installation Procedures

2.6.2 Enable the PC firewall and open the specific port

If the Windows firewall is used, you need to configure settings per service program, as well as
Windows XP SP2 Firewall settings. As for the network service functions (file-sharing etc.)
provided by Windows, the necessary settings get configured at the time when the function itself
is set, and therefore it is not necessary to make separate configurations for standard functions.
However, if you use our CLASS-Agent, settings for MSDE and Oracle are required.

Procedure
1) Log onto Windows as Administrator.
2) From the “Start” menu, click “Settings” and then “Control Panel”. The Control Panel dialog
box will appear.
3) Open the Windows Firewall. (When running in LUNA mode, switch “Control Panel” to
Classic view and open Windows Firewall.)
4) Select the “On [recommended]” radio button under the “General” tab and de-select “Don’t
allow exceptions” radio button. Click the “OK” button.

2.6.2.1 SQLServer (MSDE)

The 1433 TCP port and 1434 UDP port are used in a standard installation of a MSDE.
Therefore, these two ports must be removed from the firewall on computers configured with
the Windows firewall. If non-standard ports or dynamic ports are used, check with your
Systems Administrator for settings. Here are the steps for configuring the Firewall.

3.4 Points changed by version 2.20

Some functions have been added in version 2.20. Functions common to all Agents and functions
specific to particular Agents are described in this manual. Be sure to read it before use.

3.4.1 Items common to automatic registration and manual

registration
Items common to all Agents are described in this section.

3.4.1.1 Access right for database

When selecting the database of data storage destination, if there is no ID of the current logined
user in the selected database, a message is displayed indicating that the database cannot be se-
lected. Select other database or the administrator must take measures, such as registering the
user ID for the database that could not be selected, using the function of Agent manager.
Also, user ID is checked when registering the data to the database. If a message is displayed
indicating that the user has no access right when registering the data, take the same action.

Example of screen when the user has no access right

All users can have access to the database that is just after creation.
Setup of access right for each database is performed with Agent manager.

3.4.1.2 Sharing of setting

Even if the logined user of OS is different, contents of setup will be taken over. However, just
after login by a new user, setup of automatic start from start-up that activates simultaneously
with OS is not valid. (Setup is taken over). Setup is effective from next start of PC.

3.4.2 Common items for automatic registration

This section describes items common to automatic registration Agent. Objective softwares are
as follows.
GCMSsolution Agent, IRsolution Agent, UVProbe Agent,, and CLASS-VP Agent

3.4.2.1 Automatic login by system user

It is possible to login automatically without inputting login ID and password as the system user
when automatic registration is started. A change such as configuration is not permitted.
(Displayed in gray). User name is specified as [System User]. When performing logout,
processing is same as Admin. Then input of password for Admin is required. Normally, the
setup screen exists in the configuration menu.

In automatic registration, it is possible to register the system check report file that was created
immediately before in the link file 8 of database.

If this check box is marked, the system check report that was executed just before analysis is
automatically registered. The report is not registered after execution of re-analysis.
System check report registered in the database can be referred by IE by double clicking the
Agent manager.

3.4.3.2 Does not register PDA data

When performing re-analysis on PDA data in automatic registration, it is possible to select
whether the data file is registered in the compressed file and link file.

3 Update

3.4.4 GCMSsolution Agent

3.4.4.1 Registering the data file in link field
It is possible to register the data file of GCMSsolution (extension: QCD) in the field of link file
9 of database. For both of automatic registration and manual registration, there is check box to
set up whether register or not at the lower part of registration screen of sample information. By
putting check mark in this check box, the data file is registered in the field of link file 9 of
database.

3.4.4.2 SCAN data is not contained in compressed file

When SCAN data file is registered by manual registration at storing the data, it is possible to set
whether the data file (extension: QGD) is contained in the compressed file or not.
If file size of SCAN data is large and it is considered unnecessary to save the database area,
make this setting valid.

3-15
3 Update

3.4.4.3 Addition of Specified Amount and IS. Area
