In 2020, Oman Refinery & Petrochemicals Company, ORPIC will begin to produce
basic plastics material's from its production facility in liwa, which forms part of its
Liwa Plastics Complex.
Subsequent to the commissioning of the Liwa plant, the MoCI initiated the
development of plastics manufacturing opportunities and project profiles.
The study has identified potential sectors and projects profiles are designed to be
used by manufacturers and potential investors in developing business opportunities
for plastics industries.
Based on the profiles, business plans were prepared for specific project
opportunities.

ICV Linkage - Demand for Plastic Bags: The product is transported in 20-25kg HDPE bags (with separate liner inside)
- Aid the local industry (F&B, Fertilizers, Chemicals & Coatings)
Total Market for Silicone Dioxide in Oman is 24,000 tons and has witnessed a sharp growth of more than 50% in the last
5 years. The growth is likely to continue inline with growth in the key user industries as well as export potential to Asia
(growth 7%) and America. The global production of silica is around 8.5-9 Mn tons per annum and growing at a rate of 4%
Rationale for year-on-year.
Oman
Silicone Dioxide is a specialty silica. The same facility can also manufacture other chemicals such as Sodium Silicate which
has a variety of applications. The main applications of Sodium Silicate are in detergents, paper, water treatment,
construction materials, and drilling fluids. More recent applications have been in aquaculture.

Sub-Sector Fabricated Metals (Aluminum)
Product 760410 - Bars, rods and profiles, of non alloy aluminum (Aluminum Extrusions)
Specifications Specifications will vary based on end-client requirements.
Aluminum extrusion is the process by which a billet of metal is reduced in cross
Operation section by forcing it to flow through a die under high pressure.
The extrusion profiles are then taken for finishing and packing for dispatch.
All the referenced applications are inline with the key developments and
investments in Oman.

Sub-Sector Plastic
392330 - Carboys, bottles, flasks and similar articles for the conveyance or
Product
packaging of goods, of plastics
The bottles and jars are manufactured by injection molding and extrusion blow-
Operation
molding machines.
The project can cater to the requirements of F&B, FMCG and other industrial
goods. The products use PP and PET (from local sources) to convert into value-
added finished plastic products.
Applications
Opportunity to manufacture complementary and specialized products such as
baby bottles and flasks in the long-term.
The market for bottles and jars in Oman is estimated to be around USD 23-25 Mn and growing at a rate of 10% year-on-
year. Additionally, the exports have also witnessed growth year-on-year highlighting potential of exports in the near-term.
Rationale for
Oman The domestic market highlights presence of captive as well as independent manufacturing plants for plastic bottles and jars.
These, are basic manufacturers catering to the needs of FMCG clients. The upcoming F&B especially dairy developments in
the country are likely to witness increased demand for plastic bottles and jars of various sizes and shapes.

Sub-Sector Plastic
Product 392350 - Stoppers, lids, caps and other closures, of plastics
Plastic cap specifications suggested to be manufactured :
• 38*51 mm
Specifications
• 28*28 mm
• 83*100 mm
The proposed facility is recommended to manufacture caps & closures using
injection molding technology for bottle caps, closures for jerry-cans and drums,
Operation
pilfer-proof caps, jar lids, lids for various containers, etc. to handle 4 to 32 multi-
cavity , depending on closure- types and sizes.
The capacity is expected to cater to the local demand from semi-finished product
manufacturers (like bottles and jars) and filler companies (F&B, FMCG and other
industrial goods).
Applications The project can cater to the requirements of F&B, FMCG, Pharmaceutical,
cosmetics as well as other bottle manufacturers. Additionally, the company is
also advised to keep updated on global trends in packaging and innovations in
cap designs (caps for sports drinks, childproof caps, pilfer-proof caps, etc.)
Estimated total output is 950 Mn Tons in Year 1 (225 Mn units) and
