Exercise 3.

Name: CASCARO, CYNDI O. 2BSE-FILIPINO B1

Comparison of peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR ) before and after a walk on a cold
winter’s day for a random sample of 9 asthmatics. Enter two columns in the
workbook, one of there PEFR’s before the walk and the other of PEFR after the walk.
In this example each row must represent the same subject.

Null Hypothesis: The population mean has no something different between before
and after walk on a cold.

Alternative Hypothesis: The population mean has something different between

before and after walk on a cold.

Subject Before After D D

1 312 300 -12 1945.79

2 242 201 -41 228.35

3 340 232 -108 2692.46

4 388 312 -76 395.57

5 296 220 -76 395.57

6 254 256 -2 3376.9

7 391 328 -63 47.46

8 402 330 -72 252.46

9 290 231 -59 8.35

∑D=-56.11 ∑D=9342.89

Computation for t:
Decision:
The value of t is -4.925774. the value of p is .00116. the result is significant at
p<.05,therefore we accept alternative hypothesis.
Conclusion:
The result is significant at p<.05, which means there is something difference
between the comparison of peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) before and after a walk
on a cold winter’s day.
