1. A company claims that only 1 out of 200 computers it sells has mechanical
malfunction. What alternative hypothesis would you use if you think this
statistics is too low? Null hypothesis:

Ho: M=1/200 meaning, only 1 out of 200 computers the company sells has mechanical
malfunction.
Alternative hypothesis:

Ha: M>1/200, there are more than 1 out of 200 computers the company sells have
mechanical malfunction.

2. A health study states that Filipino adults consume an average of 3300 calories
per day. What alternative hypothesis would you use if you think that this
statistics is incorrect? Null hypothesis:

Ho: M=3,300 which means that Filipino adults consume 3,300 calories per day.

Alternative hypothesis:

Ha: M is not equal to 3,300 which claims that Filipino adults doesn’t consume 3,300
calories per day.
3. An investment company claims that its clients make an average of 8% return on
investments every year. What alternative hypothesis would you use if you think
this figure is too high? Null hypothesis:

Ho: M=8% which means that the company’s clients make an average of 8% return on
investments every year.

Alternative hypothesis:

Ha: M>8% claims that the company’s clients make an average of more than 8% return on
investments every year.
