1 General

The "Spirit" elevator is a version of the elevators without machine room, which are built with decentralized
control system (DZS).
This elevator type was designed to make optimum use of the shaft space.
The idea was to keep the shaft cross section small in new buildings. When modernizing elevators, it is in
some cases possible to install an elevator with more carrying force in the existing shaft.
Instead of a pit, a pit cavity of 400mm is sufficient.
The headroom height (finished floor top landing to shaft ceiling) can be reduced to 2600mm, which mat-
ches a normal height between floors.

2 Drive

A three-phase current synchronous motor (with permanent magnet excitation) in pancake design is used
as drive, and is mounted in the lower part of the shaft. A special feature is a toothed belt used to transmit
the motor output torque onto a separate traction sheave to reach the required speed reduction.
A dual-circuit brake is mounted at the traction sheave; the brake disc and the traction sheave are made of
a single part. Microswitches are used to monitor brake release and wear, thus meeting safety brake re-
quirements, i.e. to prevent uncontrolled elevator car movements in upward direction (safety gear operation
UP) as specified in the EN81 standard.
The entire drive unit is installed in a steel frame. The motor with traction sheave are located in the upper
area, the frequency controller is located in the lower area.
The drive unit frame fixture is protected against vibration. Rubber elements are installed in the lower unit
area to connect the drive unit frame and the drive unit bracket so that they can absorb the tensile forces of
elevator car and counterweight mass in upward direction.
A damper (rubber bush) is installed in the upper area between sling and shaft wall to hold the drive unit
upright and to allow relative motions.

3 Car Unit

The elevator car is designed as self-supporting unit without car sling.

A bottom pulley block with two rope pulleys (polyamide) is mounted under the elevator car and is con-
nected to the car floor by four elastomer springs which protect against vibration.
The two rope pulleys guide the suspension ropes from the drive side around the elevator car to the final
suspension point.
The bottom pulley block is equipped with a progressive safety gear on both sides of the guide rails, which
is activated by the overspeed governor in case of overspeed downwards to catch the elevator car.
Sliding guides are part of the standard equipment, optional roller guides are available.
Due to lack of space between elevator car and shaft wall, the car operating panel is always an installation
panel.
The elevator comes with a K12 car door without isolation elements which is directly bolted to the elevator
car.
The frequency-controlled F12 door drive consists of a door motor and an external control device. The mo-
tor is attached to the side of the suspension gear and uses toothed belts for direct car door drive. the con-
trol device is attached to the rear side of the door hanger.
The apron is opened manually which means that during an evacuation – if landing and landing door are
not level (elevator car too high) – it will have to be manually opened prior to rescue of passengers and then
closed again by hand after the rescue.

4 Shaft/ Suspension Ropes

suspension ropes
The suspension rope diameter is 6.5mm.
The rope ends are attached to the tie rods at the pulley support (counterweight side) in the headroom us-
ing cable hoists, compression springs (made of steel) are used for vibration isolation.
The other end of the rope is equipped with a threaded rod and is attached to the governor console via
elastomer spring (rubber buffer) in the headroom.
The rope run is as follows:
¾ final suspension point at the pulley support (counterweight side) in the headroom
¾ diverter pulley at the counterweight
¾ both upper diverter pulleys in the pulley support/headroom
¾ traction sheave of the drive unit in the lower shaft area
¾ lower diverter pulley in the pulley support/headroom

5 Headroom

A pulley support with three rope pulleys (made of polyamide) is screw-connected to the ends of the coun-
terweight guide rails as well as the elevator car guide rail. This is used to divert the suspension ropes in the
headroom as well as to fix the rope anchorage on the counterweight side.
On the opposite side of the headroom, a bracket is screw-connected to the elevator car guide rail, to which
the other rope end is attached, and onto which the overspeed governor is mounted.
All these assembly groups in the headroom are mounted to one side of the car unit (and not above it), but
without wall openings or other modifications to the building. This is the only way to ensure the very small
minimum headroom dimensions (2600mm).
The safety space between elevator car and shaft ceiling required for the protection of the service personnel
is ensured through various mechanical (temporary buffer support) and electrical measures (monitoring via
foot switch plate).

6 Shaft Pit

The rails are positioned in the pit without troffer. collecting pan are placed beneath the rails to catch the lu-
brication oil of sliding guides (standard).
Spring type buffers (made of PUR) are mounted below the elevator car path and the counterweight path,
which are designed to withstand the rated speed of the corresponding unit.
The tensioning device for the overspeed governor rope is attached to the elevator car guide rail in the pit.
The drive unit with frequency controller is mounted in the height of the lowest landing (above floor level)
and protected against vibration.
Mechanical (temporary buffer support) and electrical safety devices (safety circuit) are available to secure
the safety space during service work.

1 General Information

Installation Method
A conventional installation is required, because all main assembly groups (e.g. car unit) are delivered dis-
assembled and must be assembled on site.
The installation is to be carried out on scaffolding within the shaft (usually pre-assembled on construction
site).

Industrial Health and Safety

The following regulations are to be observed throughout the installation:
• Observe and strictly adhere to safety rules and accident prevention regulations (such as the UVV -
valid in Germany)!
• Observe the installation instructions in booklet 0 (MA-0) and relevant professional liability insurance
association information (such as BGI 779 - valid in Germany)!
• Wear personal safety equipment (as described in PSA guidelines for Germany)!
• Use a safety device against the risk of falling!
• Check installation platforms for obvious damage prior to use! Repair any detected damage prior to
use! Only the manufacturer may modify the scaffolding.
• Use only tested and approved lifting tackles and working materials!
• Use lifting tackles only specified by the manufacturer (do not overload, hook up, lift at a slant, etc.) !
• Check the functions of the lifting tackle prior to use!
• Determine if the appliance has defects concerning safety regulations!
• Fixed attachment points are to be used!
• Always use hoisting equipment which meets current technical standards and is sufficient for the in-
tended loads. Observe manufacturers' specifications!

3 How to Prepare for Installation

3.1 Site Inspection

The installation company must inspect the site prior to installation start. During site inspection, all building
structures are checked against the plan of installation and and the technical specification to ensure an effi-
cient startup of the installation.
We recommend the use of our "Site Inspection Checklist" (se booklet MA 1, 6000/ 019) for documenta-
tion.
Incomplete or insufficient work must be reported to the site coordinator including a deadline by which the
work must be completed prior to installation start. Simultaneously, project management must be informed
of the complaints.
The depth of the pit / pit cavity as well as the headroom height must meet the minimum dimen-
sions specified in the plan of installation (AZ)!

3.2 Start Up the Erection Site

ƒ Connect the power supply for electrical lifting tackles, installation tools and illumination.
ƒ Mount the shaft lighting for installation.

3.3 Plumb the Shaft

A plumb is used to determine the actual dimensions of the shaft, which must be known to ensure an effi-
cient installation of the elevator. The minimum dimensions must be observed!
• Attach two plumb wires in the uppermost anchor rail level to long hook bolts or similar, use plumb
weights to run them through the shaft, let them come to rest, then fasten.
Have the plumb wires run in parallel to the rail gauge surfaces of the elevator car guide rails. The
space between the two plumb wires is defined by the car gauge between rails FKSTM (see shaft in-
spection sheet).
• Measure shaft and door openings and enter the results in the shaft inspection sheet.
• Determine precise position of elevator car guide rails.
Observe the adjusting range of the provided standard adjustable brackets of ±20mm!

Rail Assembly
Attention:
The machine carrier must be installed in this section!
1. Slightly tighten the screws the adjustable bracket used to fasten the guide rail for car and counter-
weight in the corresponding position at the anchor rails.
2. Clean the guide rails, then use the plan of installation (AZ) to position them.
The guide rails (groove facing downwards, key upwards) are placed directly upon the pit floor
without buffer and guide base.
The lower end of the two counterweight guide rails as well as the elevator car guide rail on the
counterweight side are each screwed to the machine carrier; the back of the rails connect with the
machine carrier.
So the gauge between the counterweight guide rails is preset at this level by the closed bow-
shape.
Due to space restrictions, the machine carrier and the lowest rail segments are to be posi-
tioned at the same time!
A substructure is necessary if the pit is too deep (i. e. it differs from AZ)!
Make sure that all rail support points are of the same height (rail tracks must end at the
same height in the headroom).

Installation of the Pulley Support in the Headroom

The pulley support is pre-assembled and comes with two rope pulleys used to deflect the suspension ro-
pes in the headroom.
Furthermore, three short rail segments of the counterweight rails and of the elevator car rails (counter-
weight side) are screw-connected to the pulley support as pre-assembled upper end of the rail tracks. So
fishplates are used to connect the guide rails must with the screw-fastened short rail segments when at-
taching the pulley support.
It is necessary to measure if the space between the ends of the completed rail tracks and the shaft ceiling
is at least 30mm prior to positioning the pulley support.

How to Measure the Space between Rail Track and Shaft Ceiling
• The space between the end of the mounted rail track (without pulley support) and shaft ceiling
must be measured prior to positioning the pulley support. Do not take the spring located at the
guide rail joint into account!
• Measure the length of the short rail segments at the pulley support.
The mounted rail segments must cut flush at the top end of the pulley support if the measured di-
mension is less than 30mm.
The rail segments must not be shortened if the space is larger than 30mm. Cutting the rail segments too
short can cause the elevator car roller guides to jump the rails when overtravelling.

How to Mount the Pulley Support

• Hang up chain hoist (small version) in the provided hoisting ring in the shaft ceiling.
The lifting tackle must be positioned to one side due to lack of space between pulley support and
shaft ceiling.
• Bring the pulley support into the shaft and use the short (assembled) rail ends to set it down upon the
mounted rail tracks.
While doing so, put a slip around the pulley support in the lower area (inner counterweight rail). In the
upper area, use a clevis to fasten a slip (see figure). Hang the chain hoist into the slip, then guide the
chain through the clevis in the upper area of the pulley support (to prevent the pulley support from
tipping over).

Secure slip with clevis in the upper area, then guide

chain of lifting tackle through the clevis.

Aufzugswerke Counterweight
Booklet No. Type Serial No.

Installation of the Counterweight

The counterweight consists of the following parts:
bottom beam, side beam, top beam, filler weights and a holding-down clamp for the filler weights.
The standard frame is delivered pre-assembled.
The standard unit comes with sliding guide (oiled guide rails), and there is an optional roller guide (dry
guide rails).
In case of disassembled delivery, the counterweight frame is to be assembled as follows:
• Screw together bottom beam, side beams (vertical angle) and top beam outside the shaft. Each screw
union point 6x with hexagon screw, detent edged washer and hexagon nut.
• Insert counterweight frame between the counterweight-guide rails, mount the guides, vertically align
the frame and tighten the screwed connections of the guides which belong to top / bottom beam.
Sliding guides: The air gap to the guide rails' gauge between rails may be no more than approx. 2mm
(approx. 1mm on either side).
Roller guide: Place the rollers lightly against the rails, do not mount under pressure load (max. 50N /
5kg)!
• Load the counterweight frame with the prescribed amount of filler weights (load distribution 40%).
First, the bottom beam is filled with the weights in square stock, then the plates are inserted.
• Put the holding-down clamp into the side beams on both sides.

Aufzugswerke Car Unit
Booklet No. Type Serial No.

Installation of the Car Unit

The car unit consists of car floor with bottom pulley block, elevator car operating panels, car roof, car door.
The car floor with pre-assembled bottom pulley block is already installed between the elevator car guide
rails.
If the car floor can only now be mounted at this time (rails completely assembled), the roller guide as well
as the safety gear is to be dismounted on one side and the floor is lifted in between the rails at an angle.
The square pipe used to transmit the drawing-in of the safety gear (i. e. connecting the governor
rope anchorange side and the adjacent side) must be pushed into the bottom frame (see figure x)
prior to mounting the elevator car floor.
Retrofitting the square pipe is not possible!
The connection of door entrance frames, side wall panels and rear wall panels is carried out using a quick
connect system, consisting of elastic cone elements on one flank and keyhole slots on the other flank of
the panel to be connected.

Unfinished elevator car

• Screw the mounting bolts for the elevator car operating panels into the car floor (press nuts) to a point
where the panels can then be positioned.
This only concerns the screw points at which the elevator car operating panels are open to the bottom
(upright open slot) allowing the panel to be pushed into the screwed area.
The screws at the horizontal closed longitudinal holes in the panel are tightened after positioning the
panel.
• Position elevator car operating panels. On both elevator car sides, start with the middle panels (di-
rectly above the bottom pulley block), because these cannot be pushed in straight from above.
Observe set position of the installation panel! The mounting is carried out at the panel with
brought-in drilled holes and break-out.
• Besides the center panel, the elevator car operating panel with assembled cam (to operate the shaft
end switch and the door monitoring switch) is to be positioned on the side of the governor rope an-
chorange (towards the entrance side resp. main side).
The fastening area of the cam is a sheet metal strip in
panel height. The screwed connection points are on the
floor frame and the ceiling frame.

Use cone elements to brace all further elevator car operating panels and then the door entrance frames
against one another and against the car floor (hexagon screw with detent edged washer).
The cone elements are always, when looked upon from inside the elevator car, attached to the right com-
ponent flank. Due to the design of the keyhole slots, the assembly direction is possible in both sides.
By moving the panels which are to be connected, the cone parts catch the keyhole slots of the already po-
sitioned panel. Due to the open longitudinal holes, the panel drops into the correct position and the cone
parts connect the panels.

wiring diagram for wiring of the installation panel.
Guide the cable harness from the distribution console via trunking/ car roof to the car sling are, guide
it through the side beam/ car sling and then install it downwards in the canted edge of the side
beam. The lower half of the side beam has punched holes (see figure 12), where the cable harness
can be pushed through the side beam and the elevator car operating panel into the installation pa-
nel.
A plastic hose is pulled across the entire length as cable protection.
The cables are then connected in the installation panel (the standard cable ends are equipped with
connectors on the installation panel side).
Tie the cable harness down to the side beam from the bottom upwards using cable ties.
The remaining length of the cable harness (which is only manufactured in one standard length) is to
be stowed in the trunking on the car roof.

site side. The traversing square pipe within the car floor transmits the drawing-in of the safety gear to
the safety lever on the other side. The two safety levers with the square pipe are connected via pipe
corner pieces (square pipe with welded flat steel).
The square pipe used to transmit the drawing-in of the safety gear must already be pushed into the
bottom frame of the elevator car (see "Installing the Car Floor").
Attach pipe corner pieces to square pipes on both clamping of square pipe onto pipe corner

Car Door Lock for K12

The car door lock must be installed according to EN 81 if the distance between shaft wall and car door step
or door entrance frame or door panel is larger than 150 mm.
The car door lock is always used in elevator type "Spirit", pit cavity version (NC71A10 and NC7140), be-
cause people may also fall in the well in the landing area because of the short stationary car toe guard
(folding toe guard must be swung out by hand).

Function
The car door can only be opened electrically resp. by hand from inside the car when it is inside the unlock-
ing zone. For this a cam must be installed at each sheet metal casing of the landing doors keeping a dis-
tance of approx. 12mm to the unlocking roller (see installation instructions for S12 door). As soon as the
car door starts opening, the movable slide, which is pushed back if the door is closed, is pushed to the
front again by the compression spring. The unlocking roller touches the unlocking cam and then the hook
makes a rotary motion and thus unlocks.

Installation / adjustment
The car door lock is delivered pre-assembled. The adjustments must always be checked resp. ad-
justed!
Note: Setting up procedures must be carried out with closed car door!

1. Check mechanical cover A of locking unit baseplate lock (see figure below) when closing the
switch contact (pos. 2) and adjust by sliding the switch if necessary.
2. The backlash at closing gap B between hook bolt and locking device must be adjusted at rubber
buffer pos.9 as well as at locking device pos.8. The locking device must always be installed.
Bend retaining plate for locking device (pos.7) after adjustment.
3. Check working depth C of the hook and adjust if necessary. For this the 3 screwed connections of
the ZB locking unit must be loosened and their height must be changed via longitudinal holes.
Bend both retaining plates (top and bottom; pos. 4) for ZB locking!
Afterwards the hook should be aligned horizontally!
The distance between unlocking roller pos.2 and unlocking cam of the landing door must be ap-
prox. 12 mm.
For unlocking cam installation see installation instructions S12 door (MA 3, 6092/013).
In case of a different distance correct the position of the unlocking cam at the well door suspen-
sion gear.
4. The safety contact pos.2 must open after the unlocking roller unlocked the hook (switch jumper

Emergency unlocking
Emergency unlocking is a means for opening the door when the car stands outside the unlocking zone
(for example car in safety gear operation), in order to be able to rescue trapped persons faster.

A yellow unlocking rod is delivered with the

help of which the unlocking rod can be re-
tained and/or pulled downwards and in so
doing the hook is unlocked when the door
opens. (see figure)
2 unlocking rods are delivered for ma-
chine-room-less elevators. These unlock-
ing rods must be stored in the well; one in
the area of the bottom-most landing door
beside the door frame and the other in the
area of the top-most landing door beside the
door frame (to be easily reached from the
floor). Unlocking roller

Door Drive F12

The F12 door drive consists of a door motor and an external control device.
The door motor is secured in upright position (motor shaft vertically) beside the car door hanger (on the
face) and protected from vibration. The speed controller is located in a separate switchbox and fixed on the
car roof resp. hanger backside.
Induction flux from the drive to the car door:
• A tooth belt pulley is installed on the motor shaft.
• The tooth belt pulley/ motor shaft transmits the movement directly to the car door via the toothed
belt.
The toothed belt is fed through the face plate at the door hanger and clamped at the widening
cam.

Door motor mounting

• Fix upper door motor on the hanger/ sheet metal casing with mounting elbow using 2 screws.
In the bottom area the door motor is supported by a rubber buffer at the side of the hanger.
• Place and tighten toothed belt.
Place toothed belt around tooth belt pulley of the door motor as well as around tensioning pulley (op-
posite side of the hanger) and clamp at the widening cam slider.
Screw axle of tensioning pulley at the sheet metal casing (in longitudinal hole) in slightly. The toothed
belt must be tightened in such a way that the belt is displaced from the center by approx. 2cm in case
of a force of approx. 100N (~10kg) (rule of thumb).
Screw in axle to the sheet metal casing tight.

Automatic going into operation

Only the following 5 points must be carried out for door commissioning. The parameters are self-
learning! Further adjustment with a diagnostic unit is not required.
Parameters can only be changed by using diagnostic unit 6 (laptop) but not with diagnostic unit 1. The
diagnostic program is provided to TÜs and adjusters.
Attention: Going into operation must always be carried out with linked well door!

1. Turn HEX- switch S1 to the corresponding position.

Switch setting 0 Æ Door activation not via CAN (external control system)
Switch setting 1 Æ Door activation via CAN (TKAW control system),
door drive at main side (standard setting).
Switch setting 2 Æ Door activation via CAN, door drive at rear side.
2. Turn HEX- switch S2 to the corresponding position. Switch settings 0 - 3 Æ not relevant for F12
door drive
Switch setting 4 Æ Slow door motion
Switch setting 5 Æ Normal door motion (standard setting)
Switch setting 6 Æ Fast door motion
3. Check if jumper J3 is inserted or pulled off.
Jumper inserted Æ Jumper is the terminating resistor of the CAN line (120 ohm).
Jumper pulled off Æ Standard because the line end and thus the terminating resistor of the CAN li-
ne is located in the load unit (LMS1).
4. CLOSE door by hand by sliding it into its original position. The cam remains extended!
5. Press button T1 at the speed controller for at least 5 seconds Æ Learning function is started.
Explanations:
LED H2 starts flashing after operating button T1 for approx. 5 seconds. If the button is now re-
leased, automatic going into operation is started. LED H2 is flashing during the entire automatic
process. If the button is not released within the first 5 seconds after H2 started flashing, automatic
going into operation is not carried out and LED H2 is switched off. This process does not change any
parameters.
The operating and dwell time shall avoid involuntary activation during line connection etc.
Thus, automatic going into operation is started by releasing the button while LED H2 is flashing and
is now carried out automatically without additional activities.
If the button is shortly operated during automatic going into operation, the function is canceled and
an immediate RESET is carried out. All parameters detected up to this point are deleted.
This is meant to be a protective function to be able to stop the door motion at any time.

Note for LED signaling:

Signaling Æ LED comes on and off in regular intervals coming.
Flashing Æ LED is repeatedly illuminated for a very short period of time.

Parameter learning
The door drive conducts the learning phases including reset independently (duration approx. 1 min.)!
A special algorithm with a fuzzy logic (fuzzy control) determines the stated parameters with various se-
quences of motion. The three learning run phases are indicated with SMD LED H1 and H3.

Learning phase 1 determine door width H1 signals; H2 flashes; H3 off

(door is slowly opened and closed)

Learning phase 2 learn operating force H1 off; H2 flashes; H3 signals

(door is slowly opened and closed)

Learning phase 3 determine door mass H1 and H3 are signaling alternately

(door is accelerated to the max., H2 flashes;
during CLOSE and OPEN
movement)

Completion check and save parameters H1; H2; H3 are switched on for 5 sec.
Reset drive is ready for service

Following parameters are learned

- door direction (m_r)
- selection of widening cam operation (asb) and distance (fwsi)
- confidence window (wvf)
- special characteristic curve for opening after system on
- boost voltage for opening and closing the first third (rpm)
- door width without widening cam distance (fwti, fwn)
- 150N characteristic curve for closing (amt)
- status discrepancy forces min. and max. (keno, kenu, kexo, kexu)
- deceleration and acceleration (door mass) (bs. Zs, boe, zoe)
- speed (Vss, Vd)
- check parameters on plausibility and restrict to standard values

Notes on the automatic going into operation sequence

If unusual values are determined during automatic going into operation, e.g. due to blocked doors or
other breakdowns, automatic going into operation is canceled by a RESET and no parameters are chan-
ged resp. saved. The three LEDs are switched off again.
If the button is shortly operated during teach-in run, the function is also canceled and all parameters de-
tected up to this point are deleted. This is meant to be a protective function to be able to stop the door
motion at any time.

LED H2 is permanently illuminated after successfully completed automatic going into operation.

If one or several parameters are changed for optimizing door performance, LED H2 starts signaling. If the
position of HEX switch S2 is changed, LED H2 is switched off. Only if HEX switch S2 is again in the posi-
tion used for automatic going into operation, LED H2 is illuminated or signaling. Thus, it can always be
determined if automatic going into operation was carried out and which basic setting was used resp. if
parameters were subsequently optimized without using diagnostic unit 6.
Automatic going into operation cannot be carried out in position 0 of HEX switch S2, only manual going
into operation with diagnostic unit 6 is possible.
If LED H2 signals in position S2 = 0, door learning (DF11) and moment learning (DF15) was carried out
with the diagnostic unit.

If going into operation (min. learning of door width DF11 and max. door force 150N DF15) was carried
out with diagnostic unit 6 while the HEX switch was in another position, LED H2 remains switched off and
only starts signaling if the HEX switch is turned to position 0. If an automatic going into operation was
carried out previously using another HEX switch position, this can still be detected when LED H2 is signal-
ing. In this case LED H2 signals using two positions.
This condition can only be cleared by setting all default values (DF0D) with diagnostic unit 6.

Connection and indicator elements at the control device

Two Hex switch rotary switches S1, S2, one button T1, one jumper J3 and four SMD LEDs H1 - H4 are
fastened in front of plug connector X2, X3. These LEDs are located in such a way that an optical fibre
transports the light signal at F9 to the front for better diagnosis.
F12 requires no optical fibre because button and Hex switch rotary switches can be operated in a flat po-
sition as well as from the top. At F12 RS 232, connector X6 can also be plugged in from the top. Jumper
J3 for the CAN terminating resistor is located between LED and button (termination 120 ohm).
These parts are not hindering the insertion of jumper cables and can also be reached easily when the ca-
bles are connected.

Hex switch S2 beside button T1 is used for adjusting gear ratio and speed (16 combinations), the other
Hex switch S1 is used for other functions (CAN, re-opening etc.)

How to Mount the Suspension Ropes

The length of the used suspension ropes automatically determines the upper overtravel of the elevator car.
The suspension rope length is determined as follows:
• The elevator car must stand flush at the top landing.
• The counterweight (buffer plate) must be adjusted to the distance to the counterweight buffer us-
ing the set value 150mm!
Deviations caused by elevator cars that require a lower position (due to installation necessities) must be
added to the space below the counterweight!

Upper Overtravel Elevator Car

The detail in the plan of installation "Upper Overtravel Elevator Car" (OÜF) is not directly relevant for the
adjustment of the suspension rope length, it is to be taken as a theoretical maximum value for gap di-
mentsions in the headroom and is determined as the sum of:
ƒ activation of buffer counterweight (set value 150mm)
ƒ max. buffer stroke under counterweight
ƒ gravity stopping distance of the car

• Do not pull the ropes across dusty and sandy floors, because the outer lubrication collects loo-

tion sheave groove (abrasion).
• Ensure that the ropes are not untwined (untwisted) during installation! Untwining changes

5. Unlock car door

Emergency unlocking is a means for opening the door when the car stands outside the unlocking zone (for
example car in safety gear operation), in order to be able to rescue trapped persons faster.

A yellow unlocking rod hold resp. draws the

unlocking roller down and thus the hook is
unlocked when sliding the door open. (see fig- Unlocking roller

The scope of delivery comprises two unlock-

ing rods. These unlocking rods are stored in Unlocking rod
the well. One rod hangs in the area of the pit
ladder and the second in the area of the top
door architrave.

3 Monitoring circuit well

3.1 General - well deepening

In elevator NC71A the pit was reduced to a minimum size of 400 mm and the headroom was reduced to
2600 mm. In this reduction, the pit is reduced to such an extent that the clearance specified in EN81:
1998 no longer exists. When the pit is entered, safety will be guaranteed again by installing a buffer
support and a monitoring circuit.
This is indicated by a warning notice in the pit.

9900 000 4986

warning notice in
the pit

Quetschgefahr bei nicht

aufgesteckter Pufferstütze !

not plugged in !
3.2 Function of the monitoring circuit
Pit and landing doors

The lower landing door (landing doors with front and rear entrances) is monitored by a monitoring cir-
cuit. When the lower landing door is opened with the emergency unlocking device while the elevator car
is not behind the landing door, the car will be shut off immediately and the governor is activated. Due to
the electrical and mechanical safety device, the car can no longer be moved, even if the door is closed
again.
Another monitoring circuit checks all remaining doors, except the topmost door. This again means: if a
landing door is opened with the emergency unlocking device, the monitoring circuit is activated if the e-
levator car is not behind it.

The elevator installation cannot be returned to service unless the reset button on the control panel,
which is protected against inadvertent operation, is pressed.

In the event of power failure, the function of the monitoring circuit will be maintained through the storage
battery.
Power failure plus storage battery discharged will cause the monitoring circuit to respond.

3.3 General - car roof

A step switch plate monitors if people are stepping onto the car roof and this is ensured by an elevator
car travel limiter. This means that an inspection operation is only possible if the travel limiters are swung
out and the step switch plate was accessed.
In this case it is not possible to conduct backward operation, normal operation and emergency evacua-
tion by opening the brake.
A stop (bumper) at the elevator car guide rails prevents availability of safety space on the car roof in ca-
se of swung out travel limiters.

3.4 Arrangement and function of well hollow monitoring switches

Function of switches

Roller switches S87/ S87D

Switches S87 S87D must bypass the corresponding switches S87.1/ S87.1D before the unlocking zone rea-
ches the corresponding door and maintain the bypass as long as the elevator car stays in the unlocking zone.
Switch S87D is only available if the dislocated front & rear opening is ≥223mm higher. (see page 9 and 10)

Roller switch S87.2

Switch S87.2 must be located according to the length of the actuating element at the elevator car and in such
a way that switch S87.2 and S87/S87D are not operated simultaneously. This switch has a monitoring func-
tion for switch S87/S87D.

Switch S87.1 /S87.1D

The switch is an additional safety contact in the lower landing door operating parallel to the normal safety
contact. If the elevator car is not located in this landing, the safety circuit is activated via this switch if the lo-
wer landing door is opened.

Maximum admissible gap

The maximum admissible gap between apron and shaft door sill with the bridging circuit not yet being effec-
tive is 245mm (see situation 3, page 9).
With a gap of 245 mm from lower side of the fixed apron to the finished floor switch S87 must no longer be
switched and switch S87.2 must be nearly switched.

Installations with front & rear opening

All front & rear opening landings up to 2m above the shaft pit floor are taken into consideration when moni-
toring the reduced pit.

If the landing distance of entrance side I and entrance side II is less than 223mm the monitoring considers
these landings with the same level. Only one additional switch S87.1D must be installed at the front & rear
opening door (see page 9, situation 4).

If the landing distance is more than 223mm, an additional S87D switch must be installed (see page 10, situa-
tion 5 and 6).

7 Overspeed governor

The operation of blocking device resp. remote tripping of the new speed governor is the same as for the eleva-
tor with flat pit. For all elevators without machine room a solenoid must be activated by applying voltage to in-
sert the blocking device.

Sensor B73
impulses - slip monitoring

Sensor B25
governor feedback / block-
ing device

Y25
solenoid

Switch S102
safety switch

This principle was changed around for the overspeed governor. If solenoid Y25 is dead, the blocking device is also
active. This means that solenoid Y25 must always be activated during normal operation. The position is monitored
with proximity switch B25.
The control panel indicator “governor feedback” is illuminated if the magnet is attracted resp. the governor is in
normal operation.
This normal position is buffered by a storage battery in case of voltage absence.

Slip monitoring sensor B73

Another sensor monitors the elevator car speed by scanning the governor wheel. Thus, the impulses are in direct
proportion to the elevator car movement. During inching it is monitored if the elevator car follows according to the
drive. If the monitoring threshold is exceeded, an emergency stop is activated and the installation is shut down.

8 Slip control

Elevators of type series NC71A –spirit- are operated with a gear motor connected to the traction sheave via a
belt.

The slip control ensures that the drive is shut down if the toothed belt falls of the traction sheave. Recommis-
sioning can only be carried out via a Teach-In function and thus, cannot be carried out by unqualified person-
nel.

Operating mode
In case of intended elevator car movements, i.e. with contactors set into operation, the elevator car move-
ment is compared to the drive movement. For this purpose an initiator is connected to the governor pulley,
generating impulses by scanning the governor pulley during elevator car movement. These impulses are read
and processed by the MH3/4 card. Thus, the impulses are in direct proportion to the elevator car movement.
MC3 processes the drive impulses.
After the proportion of both pulse generators has been learned via a Teach-In function, all following runs can
be used to check if the elevator car follows the drive correspondingly. If the monitoring threshold is exceeded,
an emergency stop is activated and the installation is then shut down finally and fail-safe regarding power fai-
lure. Recommissioning can only be carried out via a Teach-In function.

Learning the impulses to slip way ratio

In case of speed Teach-Ins the MH3/4 is requested to send its synchronization telegrams. The MC3 records
its actual count with each telegram received from the MH3/4. When reaching the constant phase the slip way
is recorded in addition to the rated speed. The calculation is made by averaging the last valid measuring re-
sults.
Afterwards the results are recorded fail-safe regarding power failure.

What is monitored?
All intentional travelling motions are monitored, i.e. as soon as the contactors are switched on.
Exceptions:
- travelling motion during Teach-In
- travelling motion with operated service switch (TÜV switch)

Recommissioning
Only possible with AF0C resp. AF0D

9 Motor safety brake

A safety brake was built-in after omitting the braking system at the elevator car. This brake has to en-
sure safety in upward direction. To maintain safety regarding unintended travelling motion in upward di-
rection two brake test switches were installed in the brake. Now the actual condition of both brakes as
well as wear can be monitored with the switching position. Deviations from the specified condition result
in a system shut down.
In addition the brake is controlled by a temperature switch. It was connected in series with the tempera-
ture switch of the motor.

Attention! The switches are built into the brake and adjusted. It is not admissible to change
or replace them at the erection site.

10. Pit buffer support

Install an additional buffer support when accessing the pit. This buffer support is stored in a provided
support in the pit (see figure). This is a contact-stable pit position.
Stick the supplied warning signs on buffer support and governor tensioning weight so that they are visi-
ble from the access.

Threshold with toe guard

The aluminum threshold profile is pre-mounted to the base plate of the threshold as standard.
Permissible wheel load Æ 190 kg.
To fasten the threshold at the shaft wall, two fastening angles (long and short angles) are provided at each
attachment point. This permits to adjust the threshold at each level and thus level out different distances be-
tween threshold and wall or angles and wall (same type of suspension gear fastening).
Therefore the landing door can be directly mounted at the shaft wall (see fig.3) or in a recess (see fig. 4).
The attached and fully adjusted threshold is secured against tilting using butt straps. The thresold is attached
at the screw connection between angle and threshold (to be pre-assembled), and doweled to the plaster floor.
The edge of the toe guard is put into the threshold profile and screw-connected to the base plate.

Control of hook bolt

• The distance between hook bolt and locking device shall not exceed 3±1mm with the hook bolt closed
( see fig. 24).
The measure can be changed by loosening or re-adjusting the locking piece or hook bolt unit,
if required.
• In accordance with EN81 the lock switch must be set in such a way that it can switch in the locking
piece as soon as the hook penetrated >7mm. The chamfer at the hook marks the minimum penetra-
tion of the hook (see fig. 24).

Setting of the hook bolt rollers

The position hook bolt rollers to door skate must be such to ensure the opening/closing operation of the
landing door.
The coupler roller is used to ensure closing operation of the landing door by means of the door skate.
The lock roller is provided for the hook bolt (un)locking as well as the opening operation of the landing
door means of the door skate.
• Align closing edges of all landing doors by means of a plumb line !
• Set distance from closing edge to center of both rollers to 140 mm !
