Statement of Purpose

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am Anusha Bhagawatula, an Indian citizen, and I am submitting my statement of intent in support of my

application for a student visa in Canada. My academic and professional backgrounds, as well as the reasons
for choosing this degree and my post-graduation aspirations, are all described in the document.

Education Background

I had my first rendezvous with the term “management” and the Human Resources department in my
undergraduate program i.e., Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Hotel Administration. As part of my
curriculum, I had done a 27-week internship at a 5-star hotel. During my internship, I briefly assisted in the
Human Resources department, along with other 4 major departments of the hotel, and loved working with
people at the workplace and that is where I picked up an interest in Management and wanted to understand the
wider scope of it, which lead to my next course of education i.e., Post Graduate Diploma in Management. The
curriculum included subjects like Financial Accounting, Enterprise Resource Planning, Statistics, Business
Analytics, Human Resources Management, Marketing and Production & Operations Management etc.

Shaping my career to pave the way for further education

During my professional career in HR that started after my PGDM, a lot of my work evolved around bringing
in diversity and employee-centric policies that would lead to increased employee satisfaction and take the
culture towards the right direction. With almost 4.5 years of experience and a significant growth within my
current company, with increased responsibility of handling more cities and zones, I realized it was important
for me to add a more global approach in work to be able to cater to the different styles of working of
employees coming from diverse backgrounds and various countries. In my personal time after work, I took up
an online course on Diversity Management and started working on research papers on industry practices
across the world in HR for which I won the title of Best Paper Presentation at a National and International
level.

With all this research I soon realized that learning from an advanced and focused HR curriculum from abroad
could open new doors for me and bring back to my home country the knowledge of good practices in the
successful companies and industry practices in foreign developed nations. This could help me advance in
my career by allowing me to add value to any company's culture and policies. By gaining experience and
knowledge from a diverse environment and applying what I have learned to plan a more comprehensive HR
program, I will be able to solve HR-related problems that will enable the business I work with to continue
growing and expanding.

Why Canada?

I chose Canada for gaining this further education because of it being one of the top education destinations for
students and has been a home to the biggest mixed cultural society, proclaiming itself to be the land of
immigrants. These are important criteria for me as diversity and learning from what policies work well in an
advanced nation will form the solid ground on which strong human resource capital and an engaging culture
is built. Coupled with affordable tuition fee and durable living expenses makes it even more convenient to
bridge the gap between my past professional experience and my career growth. Toronto seemed like the best
location within Canada for the education and exposure to Culture I was aiming to get, considering it is the
largest city in Canada and also one of the most diverse.

Why Post-Graduate Diploma in HRM from Centennial College?

After determining my ideal school destination, the next important step was deciding which institution I wanted
to attend. The factors I looked at while choosing the college were:
 connections with the industries to ensure programs are relevant to the changing workplace and to the
needs of employers,
 recognition and accreditation of the programs, and
 applied work experience and co-op availability to gain opportunities to learn by doing, consisting of
on-the-job training with an employer and related class studies in college.

Centennial college seemed to be the one offering all of these requirements and also a very dynamic HRM
diploma program that has all the subjects meant to facilitate a comprehensive and advanced understanding of
nuances in HRM like:
 Contribute to the formulation, execution, and evaluation of staff recruiting, selection, and retention
plans and processes, as well as a performance management program and organizational growth
strategies.
 Analyze information needs and work patterns and utilize existing and developing information
technologies to assist the human resource function, and research & support the development and
communication of the organization's total compensation plan.
 Manage personal professional growth and guide others in achieving continuing competency in human
resource professional practice.

Funding my education

My educational and living expenses are paid for in part by my father's and my own savings. I have paid the
tuition fee of CAD 16,921 (~INR 10,59,150) and GIC of CAD 10,225 (~INR 6,52,030) via Scotiabank.
Furthermore, I have readily available savings of CAD 5075 (~INR 3,00,000) to take care of any further
expenditures. My father also has a readily available saving of CAD 16,700 (~INR 10,00,000 in his account
through which he will be helping me for the complete 1 year of my education in Canada, in case of any extra
expenses that I may have to incur.

Future Goals after completion of the course

After completing the course, I plan to return to India with the outstanding Human Resource Management skill
set earned in Canada and re-join my previous company's HR department as a highly skilled HR Professional
with international experience. I am sure that I will be able to add great value through my Canadian education
coupled with the already existing Indian experience. In the long run, I see myself establishing an HR
consultancy of my own in India to help businesses scale up and solve HR-related challenges.

Conclusion

I am confident that, after days of research, I have chosen the best possible option for myself, one that would
greatly assist me in attaining my goals, and I would be grateful if I am given the opportunity to pursue a Post-
Graduate Diploma in Human Resources Management at Centennial College.

I certify that the above information is correct and truthful to the best of my knowledge, and I am willing to
provide any further supporting documentation upon request. I am hoping for a favorable response to my
application for a study permit in Canada. Thank you for taking the time to read this document and consider my
humble plea.
