1.2.1 Introduction
1.2.2 Principle and Working
1.2.3 Industrial Applications

1.3 Experimental Setup:

1.3.1 Sketch/Draw the Schematic Diagram of the Apparatus

1.4 Material and Method:

1.4.1 Material/Chemicals/Apparatus used in Experiments

1.4.1 Procedure:

l. Regenerate the resin of Ion Exchange Column by circulating a solution of NaCl.

2. Fill the storage tank of Ion Exchange Column with water and find the hardness of water by
using EDTA Titration method.

3. Convert the hardness due to calcium, magnesium in terms of part per million as CaC0 3.

4. Open the valve of water to pass through the Ion Exchange Column.

5. Find the hardness of water from the outlet of the column after regular interval of time.

6. When the hardness of outlet water becomes equal to the hardness of inlet water close the valve
of opening water.

7. Note the amount of water passed through the column during the process.

8. Note the volume of resin used.

1.5 Observations & Calculations:

Volume of water treated = gallons /cycle

Volume of resin = ft3

Total cation Hardness of Raw water = PPM

Hardness load per cycle =

(-------------PPM as CaCO3)(vol.of water gallons/cycle)(Kgr)

(1000gr)(17.1 PPMCaC03/ gr. gal)

= __________Kgr as CaC03 per cycle

Capacity of Resin = Hardness load per cycle /Volume of Resin = Kgr/ft3
