I. PAGKAMAKA- KALIKASAN

THE GOOD CITIZENSHIP VALUE OF CONCERN FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

God made us stewards of His creation. You are aware that your existence and that of
generations after you are threatened by the destruction of the environment. In this alarming
situation, you should develop a sense of urgency in the way you treat your environment:
respect the integrity of creation by means of using all environment resources properly and
prudently. It is in every person’s mission of stewardship that he or she be more conscious
of his/her actions when he/she relates with the environment.

II. THE VALUE OF NATIONALISM AND PATRIOTISM

Nationalism
● Nationalism is a patriotic feeling of love for one’s country or a strong deep-seated
attachment to one’s native land.
● The cementing principle that unites the people of nation, in order to realize an ideal
that becomes national with respect and dignity it deserves among other nations.
● It is an attitude of mind that values and places the welfare of the country over that of
all others. It is a “dynamic Filipinism”.
● Nationalism is not developed, nor does it come through by accident or chance.
● It is fed and nourished systematically over a period of time.

Patriotism
● Patriotism is call for every citizen. Our country needs people who are committed to
serve the interest of the nation no matter who are seated at the helm of the
government.
● Our countries heroes, the ones who will move our country to great heights are not
found in the pedestal or pinnacle of power and prestige’s, they are found in the
hearts and deeds of ordinary people seeking to be good citizens in their every lives.
● Patriotism inspire a citizens to responds to the call of service to his nation and look
his fellowmen in need.
● Patriotism is every person’s sense of duty and responsibility to contribute in the
development of his country, the protection of her integrity, and the upholding of the
rights and dignity of his people of duty or fear of punishments or compulsion but
because of love of country.

Nationalism means to give more importance to unity by way of a cultural background,

including language and heritage. Patriotism pertains to the love for a nation, with more
emphasis on values and beliefs. Nationalism is a feeling that one’s country is superior to
another in all respects, while patriotism is merely a feeling of admiration for a way of life.
These concepts show that patriotism is passive by nature and nationalism can be a little
aggressive. Patriotism is based on affection and nationalism is rooted in rivalry and
resentment. One can say that nationalism is militant by nature and patriotism is based on
peace.

* Pagkamaka-kalikasan (love for environment), where concern for the environment and care of
creation falls on. Philippines is very rich in biodiversity. We are very rich in natural resources.
Small act can make a big difference. In Tagalog explanation, “Pag-aalga sa kalikasan,
pagtitipid sa paggamit ng tubig, hindi sinasayang ang mga papel na galing sa ating mga
kapunoan”. #Trashtag is trending right now in the Social Media platform where individual will
clean an certain area and document the before and after of that place. It is actually a good
challenge in Social Media since they were able to inspire others to love and care for their
environment.

no. 8491, the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines, during the presidency of Fidel V.
Ramos. The motto has been the set of Filipino values with each of the four being connected to
one another. motto represents the duties of good Filipino citizens. Recall the Pledge of
Allegiance.

sambayanang Maka-Diyos Maka-tao Makakalikasan at Makabansa

It was included at the last part of the Pledge of Allegiance. We all know this since we always
recite Pledge of Allegiance every time there’s a flag ceremony in our schools usually during
