(b) Draw the single line diagram of 11/400KV indoor substation. [2.5]
(c) Compare between indoor and outdoor substation. [2.5]
2. (a) Derive an expression for fault current of single line to ground fault by symmetrical component method. [3]
(b) The per unit values of positive, negative and zero sequence reactance of a network at fault are 0·08, 0·07 [3]
and 0·05. Determine the fault current if the fault is double line-to ground.
3. (a) A 3-phase transmission line operating at 10 kV and having a resistance of 1Ω and reactance of 4 Ω is [3]
connected to the generating station bus-bars through 5 MVA step-up transformers having a reactance of
5%. The bus-bars are supplied by a 10 MVA alternator having 10% reactance. Calculate the short-circuit
kVA fed to symmetrical fault between phases if it occurs
(i) at the load end of transmission line
(ii) at the high voltage terminals of the transformer
(b) A 3-phase alternator can supply a maximum load of 5000 kVA at 6600 V. The machine has internal [3]
reactance of 6%. Find the reactance per phase of the limiting reactor if the steady apparent power (kVA)
on short-circuit is not be exceed 5 times the full-load value.
5. (a) Mention the diagonal and non-diagonal elements of Jacobean matrix elements equation for Newton- [3]
Raphson method of power flow analysis.
6. In the three bus bar system shown in the following Figure-1, bus 1 is a slack bus with V1=1.05∠0° pu. A [6]
load of 256.6 MW and 110.2 MVAR is taken from bus 2 and another load from bus 3 is 138.6MW and
45.2MVAR. The line admittance is given in the question figure on a base of 100 MVA. Using the Gauss-
Seidel method, obtain the voltage magnitude and phase angle of bus 2 and bus 3. Perform three
iterations.
