Assignment Title Planning to be an Entrepreneur

The purpose of this assignment is to: enable you to describe the special qualities or mindset of a successful and entrepreneur and then to start to
develop these qualities yourself using a personal develop plan. This assesses work from learning outcomes ‘Know the mindset and skills required
to be a successful entrepreneur’ and part of ‘Be able to develop mindset and skills for business’

Scenario
This assignment is about you and the action you can take to develop an entrepreneurial mindset. It would be best if you can be honest about your
skills but also bear in mind that you can probably develop more skills than seem possible at the moment.

Task 1

Find out about the personal mindset and skills of two successful entrepreneurs. This could be through internet research, interviewing local
entrepreneurs or through reading books written by entrepreneurs. Now complete Table 1, in which you describe the skills and mindset needed by
successful entrepreneurs.

This task provides evidence for P1

Task 2

Starting your own business instead of looking for a steady job, taking out loans or spending savings on equipment and materials to start a business
all seem risky. Using the information from Table 1 to help you describe how each of your two entrepreneurs managed risk.

This task provides evidence for P2

Task 3

This is about conducting an audit of your own skills. To do this you need to gather information from
a reports written about you,
b) results from exams and other assessments,
c) feedback from people you have worked with
d) and any personality or careers profiling tools you have available.
Now use what you have found out to complete Table 2. You should now have an audit of your mindset and skills and you should have identified
the areas you need to develop to be a successful entrepreneur.

This task provides evidence for P3

Task 4

As part of this programme you are developing your ideas for starting your own business. Use Table 3 to list all the skills needed in your business
and to describe what you are going to do about finding these skills. This could be
a) using your own existing skills,
b) employing other people,
c) outsourcing some aspects of your business
d) learning some new skills yourself or
e) any other way of finding the skills needed that you can think of.

This task provides evidence for P4

Task 5
Next you need to develop a Personal Development Plan. To do this
you should

a) check you have identified all the mindset attributes and skills you will need.
b) draw up a Personal Development Plan
c) implement this plan over the course of your programme of learning.
d) Set dates when you will review the progress of your personal development plan. Your tutor may support you in this.

There is a form provided which you need to copy for each mindset attribute or skill area; however if you prefer you can develop your own form or
use one provided from another source.

This task provides evidence for P5

Include in your personal development plan all the skills you need to set up and establish your business in the early stages and also carry out the
planned actions and maintain records of doing so over the course of your programme of learning.

This task provides evidence for M1

Include in your personal development plan all the skills you are likely to need currently and in the longer term, say over five years, and also carry
out the planned actions and maintain records over the course of your programme of learning.

This task provides evidence for D1

Task 6
Read your Personal Development Plan and especially the records you have maintained of how the actions went and your overall progress. For
each Mindset Attribute and Skill describe
a) How well you did with the actions
b) What progress you have made with the mindset attribute/skill
c) Whether you are now ‘where you wanted to be’ with this mindset attribute/skill
d) Any further actions you are going to take to develop this mindset attribute/skill

This provides evidence for P6
