What observations would you make about
Mr. Mitchell’s leadership in the classroom?

One of the most powerful factors in a learning environment is the

interaction between a teacher and his students. This is a factor
influencing students' achievement, school engagement, and
academic motivation. But in Mr. Mitchell's case, how he handles his
classroom, it's not that he should focus on the students he likes or
those he is close to. Because each student has different abilities and
not all of them will meet your expectations. Be equal and be fair to
them, for them to have a good environment that will lead them to be
a better person.
Is Donna Andrews justified in raising
Ms. Andrews is justified for raising
concerns regarding how Mr. Mitchell is
concerns about the way Mr.
treating her daughter Emma? Explain
Mitchell is treating her daughter.
She could have immediately called
the school and said the teacher is
picking on her daughter. She took
the most proactive approach and
observed the classroom
management for herself. This way
she can report what she saw and
not what her daughter told her.
Identify the in- The in-group is Maeve’s group because they are
group and the given more freedom in the classroom. This
group is allowed to work in collaboration with
out-group in this one another and the out-group is treated
differently when they are demonstrating the
situation. same behavior.
Mr. Mitchelle's treatment of Abby's group is like a bauble
because he doesn't seem to appreciate their intelligence, while
Mavue's group is treated with consideration because she shows
fully support.

Mr. Mitchell is almost at the Acquaintance Stage of leadership

making with Abby’s group, but once he gets completely to this
stage he will likely never reach the Partnership Stage with her
group. Mr. Mitchell is at the Partnership Stage with Maeve’s
group because he is giving them more freedom in the classroom.

At what
what phase of leadership making would you place
Mr. Mitchell and his relationship with Abby’s group and
his relationship with Mauve’s group?
In what way, Mr. Mitchell’s relationship with
the different groups productive or
counterproductive to his being a classroom
leader?

In order to be a good leader, one must have people

who want to follow you. The students in Abby’s group
resent him because of the favoritism he is displaying
with Maeve’s group. Though his relationship with
Maeve’s group will be very productive for the
members in her group but it comes with the price of
having a counterproductive relationship with Abby’s
group.
If you were Aidan, how would you advise Mr.
Mitchell about his approaches with the different
groups in the classroom? What would you
suggest Mr. Mitchell do differently?

I would take into account that Mr. Mitchell is unaware of the

way he is showing favoritism toward Maeve’s group. If he was
aware of it, he would not have demonstrated it when Ms.
Andrews was in the room observing. I would observe his class
and if the issue services, mention it to him with the expectation
to remedy the situation by going out of his way to reach out and
get to know Abby’s group more in an effort to foster more
