Chapitre 1 General

1.1 Introduction
This maintenance manual (called MM from here on) is designed to help maintenance personnel use
Pomtava gear pumps in the best possible manner as well as perform correctly all the technical
maintenance. It is advised to read this manual in its entirety before starting the pump. Pomtava S.A.
declines all responsibility for any damages caused by the non observance of these recommendations made
in this manual and no request for financial compensation or work or exchange under warranty will be
taken into consideration.

In case of difficulties, please contact Pomtava S.A. customer service or contact the supplier of the
complete installation.

Pomtava S.A. reserves the right to modify specifics and text included in this manual and declines any
responsibility for any damage incurred by using this manual, included in these typographical errors or
others which could appear in this publication.

Type 16KA and 26KA sealings combine the advantages of lip seals and a liquid barrier. Its conception
allows sealing the drive shaft directly after the pressure area of the pump (no clogging of the thrusts).

These sealing systems have to be mounted on pumps type 1610 and 1611 (model 16KA), 2610 and 2611
(model 26KA).

Chapitre 2 Sealing system concept

Lip seals are made in PTFE. Thus they can be used in aggressive environments (i.e. solvents). Liquid
barrier is used for all types of liquids, particularly for those which crystallize in contact with the air.

This sealing system allows a pressure of 100 bars, depending on the type of pump. Please refer to the
instruction handbook of your pump to know the maximum pressure allowed.

POMTAVA made a special tool set for the assembly of lip seals. This tool set can be obtained by your
supplier or directly by POMTAVA (see chapter 2.2.3).

2.1 Starting the Sealing system
This type of sealing does not require particular maintenance and no adjustment is possible. A weekly visual
monitoring makes it possible to ensure that there is no leak.

When the level control is installed, it is necessary to check the level of the liquid every week.
If the level of the liquid has increased (passage of the product in the sealing) or if it has decreased (leak at
over inside the pump) it is necessary to change the two lip seals.

IMPORTANT: Lip seals have to be changed each time the sealing is taken apart.

Startup:
No startup is necessary

2.2 Maintenance and repair

2.2.1 General
Any work done on a pump must be done by authorized and qualified personnel. All necessary measures must
be taken to ensure the safety of the personnel and that of the environment. It is advised to refer to local safety
rules in effect for the sites on which the pump is installed. If any element of the pump is defective and has to
be changed, original POMTAVA parts must be used.

2.2.3 Assembly

IMPORTANT:
Lip seals must be changed each time the sealing system is taken apart.

The special tool used for the insertion of the joints into the body of the sealing unit is composed of six parts.
(See the drawing bellow. Tooling Set N° 1-16KA-outil00)
