SECTION – A (40 Marks)

Question 1.

a. Is uniform circular motion accelerated motion? Justify your answer.


b. State the energy change which occurs in (i) Burning of coal (ii) Dynamo.
c. Name the physical quantity that is measured in:
(i) kilowatt-hour (ii) hertz
d. A body when acted upon by a force of 20 N gets displaced by 0.5m. Calculate work done
by the force in each case when displacement is (i) in direction of the force (ii) at an angle
of 600 to the force.
e. Draw a graph showing the variation of angle of deviation with angle of incidence. On
your graph show the angle of minimum deviation. [2+2+2+2+2=10]

a. Calculate the refractive index of a liquid with respect to air applying Snell’s law.

c. Find the potential difference required to pass a current of 0.5A in a wire of resistance

d. Name the material used for making a fuse wire. Give reasons for your answer.

a. A sound wave has a frequency 512Hz and wavelength 65cm. Calculate the speed of
sound in m/s.
b. The danger signal is red. Why?

c. A quartz prism is required for obtaining the spectrum of the ultraviolet light. Explain.
d. A machine raises a load of 750 N through a height of 16 m in 5 seconds. Calculate the
power at which the machine works.
e. State two conditions when work done by a force is zero.

a. State two limitations of using hydroenergy.


b. Express the power of a concave lens of focal length 25cm with its sign.
c. Draw a graph showing the relation between acceleration and mass for a constant force.
d. The ratio of the amplitudes of the two waves is 4:9. What is the ratio of their intensities?

Question 5.

a. Distinguish between centripetal and centrifugal forces.


b. A uniform metre scale is in equilibrium position. Calculate the mass of the ruler.

Question 6.

a. The given diagram shows a system of four pulleys. The upper two pulleys
are fixed and the lower two are movable.
(i) Draw a string around the pulleys.
Also show the place and direction in which the effort is applied.
(ii) Draw arrows to represent tension in each strand.
(iii) What is the mechanical advantage of the system?
(iv) What is the velocity ratio of the system?

b. Explain how a gear system can be used to obtain


(i) gain in speed, and (ii) gain in torque.
Give one example for each.
c. Why is machine not 100% efficient? [4+4+2=10]

a. Distinguish between energy and power.[three points]


b. State work energy theorem.
c. Derive the relationship between kinetic energy and momentum.
d. Find the velocity of a body of mass 100g having a kinetic energy of 20J. [3+2+3+2=10]

Question 8.

a. Figure below shows an object P, and its image I formed by a lens. In the diagram, draw
the lens and two rays to show how the image is formed.

b. State the factors affecting the refractive index of a medium.


c. The following diagram shows two right angled glass prisms (a) and (b). two rays are
shown in the diagram. Complete the paths of the rays to show how they enter and emerge
out of the prisms.(critical angle for glass=420)

Question 9.

a. When a troop crosses a suspension bridge, the soldiers are asked to break steps. Explain
the reason.
b. Distinguish between visible and infrared radiations.
c. State two factors on which loudness of sound heard by a listener depends. Name the unit
used to measure the sound level.
d. A man standing in front of a vertical cliff fires a gun. He hears the echo after 3 s on
moving closer to the cliff by 82.5 m, he fires again. This time, he hears the echo after
2.5s. Calculate:
(i) The distance of the cliff from the initial position of man.
(ii) The velocity of sound.

Question 10.

a. A battery of emf 6 V and internal resistance 1.5Ω are connected to external circuit as
shown in the diagram. Calculate:

(i) Total resistance of the circuit.


(ii) Reading shown by the ammeter.
(iii) Current flowing through 2Ω wire.

b. Distinguish between ohmic and non-ohmic resistors.


c. State the factors affecting the internal resistance of a cell. [4+3+3=10]
