Good tools are designed for long and useful service. Jenkins Test Documentation Sys-
tem allow you to provide customers with documented test results on repair jobs. This
assures them that they have received a quality repair and enhances the service that you
provide. You have the ability to closely monitor and analyze each test, to diagnose and
eliminate trouble spots. You can go a step fur ther using the optional Data Management
Module to compare present jobs with previous work.
Jenkins Test Documentation Systems may be applied to any power lines. Our systems
are turnkey, including a Dell computer system with 17" monitor, and ink-jet printer. Each
data pick-up module includes all required sensors and has an attractive NEMA-1 style
enclosure. Separate AC and DC modules are mounted inline with existing test leads on
the outside of your test supply. A single, 20' data line (similar to a telephone cord) feeds
the data input to an optically isolated data interface installed on the computer. We pro-
vide all software set-up and burn-in of the operating system prior to shipment. You simply Typical Setup
mount the modules, plug in the computer system and connect the data cord.
Our systems are easy to use and offer rock solid reliability. Each user interface is simple and intuitive, requiring little or no
training. Sensor outputs are processed through the system computer to produce easy to read, printable reports document-
ing real time values for line-to-line voltages and line currents on basic tests. Data update rate is 2 times/second. Test event
data collection can be set to run automatically for up to 24 Hours. The computer display allows you to continuously monitor
each test. Report files are automatically generated with test time/date stamps and saved to the computer hard drive in a tab
delimited spreadsheet format.

Principles Of Operation
Three inductive windings (Inducers) are connected in the rotor circuits of a slip-ring
motor. These Inducers are wound on iron tubes which serve as one-turn, shorted
secondaries. This starting resistance is adjustable from 0.2 to 2 Ohms per phase, using
the Inducer taps. The drop in rotor frequency as speed increases automatically reduces
the apparent Inducer resistance, producing stepless starting. At the end of the starting
period a shorting contactor must remove the Inducers from the rotor circuit.

a two bearing, load bearing shaft, coupled to the rheostat shaft.
These items are discussed below.
1. Rheostat resistance can be measured on a good rheostat
6. Standard, right-hand rotation for the rheostat means the knob
using an ohmmeter. On a bad rheostat, you may be able to
is turned clockwise (CW) to increase resistance. Three-terminal
measure the good sections, add up the resistance obtained,
(potentiometer connected) rheostats with maximum current
and guess at the total resistance. Another possibility is the
equal to minimum current (linear taper) can be used in either
motor or machine control may specify a rheostat resistance
direction. Dancer roll rheostats often require linear resistance,
to be used.
so they can be used on either side of the roll.
If you have no old rheostat and wish to choose a rheostat to
control a generator or motor, it is useful to know the cold
field resistance of the generator or motor (ohms), the rated
field voltage (V) and the maximum rated field current (I). If
the minimum field current is given, then rheostat resistance
can be calculated, by the following formula: 38P27I1.TIF
Where V is rated field volts
Imin is minimum field current
Rf is cold field resistance
Rr is rheostat resistance
Rr = V - Rf
I MIN
Rheostats control many different loads; therefore, there are
no foolproof rules for selecting a specific resistance. The
vernier rheostat is often equal to, or a bit greater than, the
cold field resistance being controlled. The dancer roll rheostat
is often 1.5 times the cold field ohms, but these values depend
on the motor speed range desired. Accurate information for
field control must come from the machine manufacturer.
