Purpose Statement: To persuade my audience that breakfast is the most


important meal of the day.

Thesis Statement: This speech is to persuade my audience that breakfast is


the most important meal of the day.

Introduction

Attention Getter: We have all heard that breakfast is the most important
meal of the day, but do we actually know why?

Overview of Main Points: Today I would like to go over the top three reasons
your body needs breakfast which include weight control, loss of
concentration, and the impact it has on your diet.

I. Food is fuel and energy for our bodies. The consumption of an early

morning snack increases the metabolic rate.

A. Breakfast kicks your body into gear. Without breakfast, your body doesn’t

process your next meal as quickly and tries to hold onto those nutrients.

B. When you skip breakfast, your body goes into fasting mode, which

increases your insulin response and, in turn, causes your body to store more
fat.

Do you find it difficult to work on your tasks at hand when you haven’t eaten
breakfast? That’s because breakfast is essential to your concentration.

II. Without breakfast it is more difficult to concentrate.

A. When you don’t eat breakfast it’s like you’re a car running on an empty
tank, you can’t get very far.

B. According to Pam Murphy’s article in Livestrong, the amount of calories


you intake in the morning help fuel your brain which elevates short-term
memory.

Along with breakfast being important with weight control and your
concentration, it also effects your diet.

III. Breakfast has a huge impact on your daily diet habits.

A. Skipping breakfast makes it more likely that you will grab that high in fat
sugary item to recover from the starvation mode.

B. Skipping breakfast will also cause you to go into binge eating mode
causing you to go over your recommended caloric intake.

Moving on to the conclusion…

Conclusion: We went over the top three reasons you should never skip
breakfast which include weight control, loss of concentration, and the impact
it has on your diet. I hope next time you think about skipping breakfast you’ll
make the smart choice and at least grab a healthy snack.
