The C: drive of the Panel PC is write-protected. Any installation or modification requires an unset
of the write-protection. Otherwise the modification gets lost after the next reboot.
The write-protection has to be set again after each installation or modification. This requires a re-
boot of the system. Please refer to chapters 3.1 and 3.2.

Please note:
Correct functioning of the cobas e 411 analyzer can only be guaranteed, if the analyzer is set-
up strictly according to the instructions in this manual. Any deviation from this may cause un-
expected analyzer behavior.

9.2 Description of the connection: e411  cobas link  e411

In a network all relevant components have to have unique IP addresses.
If multiple cobas analyzers are to be connected to one cobasLink, the connected system
components, Analytical Unit (AU) and the Core Unit (CU) need to have different IP-
addresses for each system.

LAN switch

system 1 IP address
172.18.38.xxx system 2 IP address
CU 237 172.18.38.xxx
AU 230 CU 217
AU 210

If a second cobas e 411 is to be connected, this system needs to have different IP-
addresses. As the standard ECPU550 PCB (p/n 271-5818) does not provide the possibility to
modify the hardware IP address, an exchange by the ECPU 550 PCB (p/n 741-5099) is nec-
essary. For details please refer to the Service Bulletin cobas e 411 no. 48.

Steps to adapted IP address settings on the second cobas e 411 system:

1. exchange the hardware and perform the settings like described in the Service Bulletin
2. modification of the GlobalIP.ini file
3. adaption of the Windows TCP/IP settings

9.2.1 Modification of the GlobalIP.ini file

The ini-file “GlobalIP.ini” is stored in the D:\e411\multi folder. 172.18.38.230 is defined here
as default IP-Address for the AU.
If the CU IP address has been changed on the CIRCUIT BOARD ASSY EMOT300 (DIP SW
2; Service Bulletin cobas e 411 no. 48), the corresponding AU IP address must also be se-
lected in the GlobalIP.ini file.
A semicolon defines the following IP address information as a comment (inactive). If no sem-
icolon is available at the beginning of the line, this information is active.

here IP address 172.18.38.230 is active

(= setting, if only one cobas e 411 is connected to a cobas link

If a second cobas e 411 is connected to a cobas link and the (hardware) IP-Address setting
on the e411 ECPU550 has changed, also the (software) IP-Address setting has to be
adapted like in the following figure:

here IP address 172.18.38.210 is active
