DeepEX Features and Capabilities

INTRODUCTION: DEEPEX – SHORING DESIGN SOFTWARE
Design and evaluate any deep
excavation system (2D Sections and 3D
DeepEX is a powerful software program for the design and evaluation of earth
Frames) with different analysis methods:
retaining systems. It can perform full structural and geotechnical design of any - Limit Equilibrium Analysis
common wall type and support system. - Non-Linear Analysis (Soil Springs)
- Finite Element Analysis
Any model (2D sections, 3D Frames) can be created, analyzed and optimized in Perform Structural and Geotechnical
minutes. Results and check ratios can be displayed in tables and graphically in a design of any wall type and support
comprehensive way. Analysis warnings and recommendations can lead to the most system in the same software package.

A. Train Loads in DeepEX Software

Within DeepEX software, all possible external loads close to our excavation site (construction, traffic, cranes, buildings, train
tracks etc.) can be simulated as either linear loads on the ground surface (point loads), or distributed surface loads.

With the Train Loads option, we offer some automation for the creation of train embankments and the train loads. A train
load can be added graphically on the model area. In the related dialog, the user can select if the embankment weight will be
included in the calculated surcharge, the number and location of the tracks and the track load, as well as the method for the
calculation of the train loads pressures on the wall.

B. Train Surcharge Methods

In the Train Loads dialog, we can select the method for the calculation of the train load surcharges on the adjacent retaining
wall (AREMA approach, Elasticity Equations, 2-Way distribution angle and more).

Figure: Automatic Surcharge Calculation Methods

The default option (AREMA) calculates the surcharges of the embankment and train loads on the wall using the Boussinesq
equations, with an elastic load multiplier of 2 according to the AREMA specifications.

C. Embankment Options

In the Train Loads dialog, we can select whether to use an embankment or not. In case we select to use the embankment, we
can define the embankment position, thickness, geometry, and weight. The embankment will be handled as an external strip
load within the software calculations.

D. Track Positions and Track Load Magnitudes

The set of the track positions and surcharge is a user-defined process. In the software we have implemented some standard
options as mentioned below:
