REFLECTION PAPER

Instruction: Write a min. of 300-word Reflective Learning Report. You may refer to
the guide questions below. Write legibly and submit your work at the end of week 1.

Guide questions:
1. Think about what you have done.
Share your thoughts from different perspectives, what transpired during your
activities, and evaluate your actions.

2. Think about what happened.

What you did and what didn't work.

3. Analyze what happened.

Explain what your learnings are and your difficulties and make a plan on how
you would improve.

With the painstaking effort and comprehensive teachings of our instructor, we

learned various topics that would surely be valuable in the pursuit of our dream
career. For this week’s discussions, the topics that we have covered are as follows:
International Code for the Safe Carriage of Grain in Bulk (International Grain Code,
cargo condition and its effects with respect to the seaworthiness and stability of the
ship, terms used in International Grain (IGC) Code, procedures on the following
operations

I learned that the International Grain Code applies to ships of any size,
including those with a gross tonnage of less than 500 gross tons, that are engaged in
the carriage of grain in bulk and to which SOLAS chapter VI part C applies. The
Code's goal is to establish an international standard for the safe transport of grain in
bulk.

There are a lot of terms to familiarize to effectively use the code. For instance,
the term grain pertains to wheat, maize (corn), oats, rye, barley, rice, pulses, seeds,
and processed forms, whose behavior is similar to that of grain in its natural state. The
term "filled compartment, trimmed" refers to any cargo space in which the bulk grain
is at its highest possible level after loading and trimming as required by A 10.2.

What worked well in this entire week is that I was able to grasp the topics with
ease because our instructor’s explanations are really straightforward and on point. We
optimally and efficiently made use of our time so that in that just a short duration of
time, we could learn cover a lot of topics. I paid no attention to different distractions
as I was so engrossed, focused, and eager to learn.

One thing that went well during this week is that my time-management skills
has ameliorated. I can now effectively plan ahead which tasks must I do first. It is
now more easier to carry out tasks that are being handed out to us.
What didn’t worked well is that there are times when power interruption occur
so I momentarily disconnect from the internet. There are also some times when I
become stressed with all of the school works that we have at hand, but it is
manageable. The fault lies in me. I just have to be better than I was yesterday. I must
not waste time in doing trivial stuff. With sufficient rest and optimistic mindset, I can
triumph over these minor issues.

All in all, I learned a lot in our subject SEAM 3. I am very thankful to our
instructor because he really put a lot of effort in teaching us in such a way that we can
understand easier. He prepared a lot of videos that are really educational. I did my
best to understand the topics to the best of my abilities and I actively participated
during the class discussion because I am really eager to learn. I am looking forward
for our next class discussion.
