Request For Soil Investgation Rev 1
Request For Soil Investgation Rev 1
_____________________________________________________
Addis Ababa,
Ethiopia.
The development involves a new construction of mixed use building and a hotel. This
development may include replacement of the water main, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer
within the vicinity, and possibly replacement of sanitary sewer manholes and the addition of
drainage systems underground.
We believe that borings should each be drilled to a depth of 2 times the minimum plan
dimension below foundation level, as per the recommendations for soil investigation and
boring depths, will be adequate for the project. However, you, as the Geotechnical
Engineer, are invited to submit alternate drilling locations and/or depth as well as number
of boreholes as you deem appropriate. The Geotechnical Engineer contracted to carry out
the investigation shall abandon the borings as per legislative requirements, and cap the bore
holes with asphaltic concrete that is at least as thick as the existing pavement. The
Geotechnical Engineer shall mark the boring locations in the field (spray paint is adequate)
using the same numbering that will be used in the report being submitted to the consultant
and inform the consultant when this is complete on site.
No payment bond, performance bond, irrevocable letter of credit, or other payment and
performance assurance is required for this work. The Geotechnical Engineer is responsible
for contacting local authorities to have utilities marked prior to boring and the Geotechnical
Engineer will stake the proposed boring locations.
We hope that this letter expresses our need for your professional assistance and that your
recommendation for the type of foundation and the bearing capacity of the soil is of vital
importance. We therefore take this opportunity to state that it is the sole responsibility of
the Geotechnical Engineer to specify a safe allowable bearing capacity for the soil by
carrying out all necessary laboratory and field tests. The consultant will not be liable for any
recommendations made by the Geotechnical Engineer. Should you require further
clarification don’t hesitate to contact us.
