Results and discussions:
This experiment is to analyze the vibrations in a braking device. These vibrations are mainly
caused by design faults or by mistakes done in the manufacturing of the components of the
system and by high rotational speeds. The results of the experiment are shown in the table
below.

Load verses Displacement and RPM

Knob Turns Displacement Motor Speed
(Mean Value) (RPM)
Start 0.006 500
½ 0.006 495
1 0.01 478
1½ 0.008 464
2 0.006 415
2½ 0.006 350
3 0.005 210

The results in the table shows that the displacement increase from a value of 0.006 to a value
of 0.01when turning the knob two half turns (one complete turn). This increase in load was
not enough to eliminate vibration in the system. when the load is increased, the mean value
displacement decreased from 0.01 to 0.005 (third knob turn). The motors speed is shown to
be decreasing more at each knob turn, due to the increase in the applied load at each turn, to
reach a final value of 210 RPM at the third knob turn. Also, it is noted that the vibration
decreases after each knob turn.

To conclude, the increase in braking load (in crease in knob turns) caused a decrease in
vibrations due to a decrease in the mean displacement to a final value of 0.005 for the third
knob turn which also caused a decrease in the motor speed to from 500 RPM to 210 RPM
which slowed down the system and will eventually make it to a full stop.
