The simple present tense


It indicates an action that happens in he present. There are several tenses in present
The actions don´t necessarily occur in this moment
The actions are situations that don´t change
The actions are generally truths, they are scientific facts and habits
They are fixed events that happen frequently
To do questions and negate we use auxiliaries
We use DO with: I, you, they, we. We use DOES with: he, she, it
Structure of a sentence:
Possitive form

1.subject (I you they we) + verb (in present) + complement


2.subject (he she it) + verb (that changes: ies, es, has, s) + complement
Interrogative form

1.auxiliary do + subject (I you they we) + verb + complement


2. auxiliary does + subject (he she it) + verb (doesn´t change) + complement + ¿
Affirmative answer form

1.yes, subject + verb + complement


2. yes, subject + verb (that changes: ies, es, has, s)+ complement
Negative answer form

1.no, subject + do + not + verb + complement


2. no, subject + does + not + verb (doesn´t change) + complement
List of some irregular verbs in simple present tense:
awake, choose, come, drive, freeze, leave, lose, have, begin, bleed, break, bring, buy, drink,
dream, drive, eat, fall, forget, learn, catch, do, go, undergo, undo, cut, let, cast, hit, bet, put,
get, build, fly, rise, teach, run, feel, write

Students awake early to go to study their subjects

Yes, they awake early to go to study their subjects

John and Alex choose a good career to study at the university


Do John and Alex choose a good career to study at the university?
Yes, they choose a good career to study at the university

The simple past tense


The simple past tense is also called preterit
There are several tenses in past tense
In simple past tense we use the auxiliary DID to make questions and negate
The auxiliary Did is used with all persons
The structure is the same that for present simple, but here we use DID

List of irregular verbs in simple past tense:


awoke, chose, came, drove, froze, left, lost, rose, had, began, bled, broke, bought, brought,
drank, dreamt, ate, fell, forgot, learnt, swam, caught, did, went, underwent, undid, cut, let,
cast, hit, bet, put, flew, built, taught, got, ran, felt, wrote

My brother awoke at six o´clock to prepare himself to go to work
Did my brother awake at six o´clock to prepare himself to go to work?
Yes, he awoke at six o´clock to prepare himself to go to work
