Principles of an effective design

Design is important for any product. But the task of completing a design is not easy. It requires

lots of works and involves many thoughts-process. In general, the design needs to be effective,

goal-oriented, and crafted to provide clear communication. One can say that the design is guided

by two important components -visual interface design principles and visual information design

principles. Today an attempt will be made to go through both principles for better understanding

a reasonable and effective design.

A. Visual interface design principles

1. Products need to be designed. Therefore, the design needs to be consistent with the.

Product as well. The unreasonable design of a product is not helpful.

2. Designers need to use their talents for Establishing a clear visual hierarchy. It is essential

to avoid subsequent confusion and difficulty.

3. Identification of the different related elements is important. The related elements’

identification depends not only on their similarity but also on the frequent group usages.

4. In order to ensure the hierarchy and relationships, applying a frequent squint test is

necessary. It helps to uncover previously undetected issues in layout and composition.

5. it is important to maintain a clear visual structure so that the end-user can easily navigate

from one part of the interface to another part of the interface smoothly.

6. Aligning labels, different control groups, and panes helps to build a better alignment for

the overall grid.

7. Ensuring Usability, Aesthetic appeal, Efficiency of an interface design is a must. One

needs to create a layout with a proper logical path for users to follow through the
interface. Designers need to focus on the Balanced asymmetry patterns to provide visual

entry points to the screen and major screen areas.

8. Designers must work on producing a user-friendly design so that even a user

encountering a screen or a function for the first time can easily determine what he can do

on the screen. Adding proper icons, conveying a sense of functions, avoiding metaphors

and representations that may not have the intended meanings, avoiding excessive visual

detail., Reusing elements when possible so that users need to learn them only once etc.

9. In order to enable the end-users to act proactively, the design needs to be able to draw

attention to important events. Using Badges etc. can be implemented.

10. Designers need to focus on creating a cohesive visual system, avoiding Visual noise

within an interface is caused by superfluous visual elements and building a simple,

visually efficient, and user-friendly design.

B. Visual Information Design Principles

1. Visual Information Design should help the end-users to compare related variables and

trends or to compare before-and-after scenarios, understand the information graphics, and

the relation between cause and effect, etc.

2. Designers need to make sure that any information in the design is relevant to achieve the

end-users, goal. To secure the users' trust, all attempts need to make for avoiding

unreliable or otherwise poor-quality information, etc.

However, in some cases, to be consistent with specific design requirements and to meet the

specific groups of customers' demands, one may need to adjust some of the above guidelines.

Each case depends on the situation and the determination of the "good reason".
