INTRODUCTION:

Watershed Modelling (Stream Catchment Delineation For Larger

Area):
A watershed is an area of land that drains or “sheds” water into a specific water body. Every
body of water has a watershed. Watersheds drain rainfall and snowmelt into streams and
rivers. These smaller bodies of water flow into larger ones, including lakes, bays, and
oceans. Gravity helps to guide the path that water takes across the landscape.

Groundwater Potential Zone Level Mapping:

Groundwater (hydrogeological) mapping is one of the main tools for systematic and
controlled development and planning of groundwater resources. These maps are used by
engineers, planners and decision makers in order to allocate, develop and manage
groundwater within a national water policy. Hydrogeological maps present hydrogeological
data in a map form. A hydrogeological map shows the geographical distribution of aquifers,
and their topographical, geological, hydrographical, and hydrological features. Presentation
of these data in the form of maps permits the rapid evaluation of a certain area. Accordingly,
hydrogeological maps assist in determining areas needing special protection.

Necessity Of Watershed Based Modelling:

● Water resources management- catchment/ watershed based
● Watershed / catchment based- Watershed modelling Planning & management
● Catchment/ Rainfall – runoff
● Modelling based on physical laws – Importance, necessity
● An integrated catchment/ watershed model.
● Hydrological Processes- Infiltration, Runoff, evaporation etc.
● Digital revolution. Recent advances in watershed modelling -Use of numerical
modelling, remote sensing and GIS.
Necessity of Groundwater Potential Mapping:
 To study the area, collect the open-source data points.
 LULC, Lithology, Lineament, Rainfall, Drainage Density & so on.

EXPECTED RESULT:
Mapping groundwater potential using remote sensing data and GIS techniques have been
increasingly implemented because of applicability in the inaccessible area saves time and
money. In this study, qualitative analysis was carried out to assess the groundwater potential
zones using GIS and remote sensing techniques, basin, Ethiopia. The study merged effects of
different factors account for occurrence and movement of groundwater, namely lithology,
LULC, lineament, slope, drainage density, rainfall and soil.
