SECTION OF SOLIDS

1. A cube with length of edges 40 mm is resting on one of its faces on HP such that one of the body
diagonals is parallel to VP. Draw a section plane in front view, passing through the mid points of the
two bottom edges at the left side and mid points of the two top edges at the right side. Draw the
sectional top view and obtain the true shape of the sectioned surface.
2. A hollow hexagonal prism, side of base 30 mm and axis 60 mm long, has a square hole of side 20 mm
through it such that the axis of the hole coincides with that of the prism and one of the rectangular
faces of the square is parallel to one of the rectangular faces of prism. The prism rests with its base on
HP and one of its rectangular faces (which is parallel to one of the rectangular faces of the square hole)
is perpendicular to VP.
It is cut by a plane perpendicular to VP, inclined at 45 0 to HP and passing through a point on the axis
at a distance of 20 mm from its top end. Draw the sectional top view and the true shape of section.
3. A right circular cone, diameter of base 54 mm and height 64 mm, lies on one of its generator in HP with
its axis parallel to VP. A vertical section plane, parallel to the VP and 10 mm away from the axis, cuts
the cone. Draw the top view and sectional front view of the cut cone.
4. A hexagonal pyramid, side of base 25 mm and axis 55 mm long, rests with its base on HP such that one
edge of the base is perpendicular to VP. It is cut by a section plane perpendicular to HP, inclined at 45o
to VP and passing through the pyramid at a distance of 10 mm from the axis. Draw the sectional front
view and the true shape of the section.
