The historical context of the four freedoms speech was that world war 2
was happening and the entry of the United States in the war was being
debated. Also the topics about the rise of totalitarian dictatorships

Great Depression.

The intended audience was the 77th Congress, the indirect


representatives and senators from all the States of America. The people
who Roosevelt would ultimately need to persuade so America could
officially go to war, however, they would not agree unless they had their

constituents behind them. So he needed them to rally the American
public to support the idea of war

Purpose
The purpose was to incite the desire to fight in world war 2

Point of View The author who created the speech was Franklin Roosevelt, and he
was the President and leader of the United States, and perhaps the
leader of the free world in supporting world freedom, liberty and
democracy. Things which were under threat from authoritarian regimes
around the world. His view then was that it was America's duty to get
involved in the war, and the sooner the better for everyone, but it was
not an easy task.

This four freedoms speech became the basis for the Atlantic Charter
and after the war the declaration of human rights in 1948. In general it
did not persuade Americans to enter the war, that was Pearl Harbor 11
Organization months later, but it did turn the American public's attention away from
isolationism and giving support for the war effort .
