Yes I am satisfied, as I said before he's the only pump minder in the the attachment here, so he's
the only person that we call and every borehole here, he's the on that fixes
It is very important, because if he has this knowledge and it is some documentation that he is
trained in this field. So it's a plus for me and the community.
Yes it is very impressive it's rare that we go and fix a borehole and we're unable to find the problem
with the borehole and unable to fix it, so there is knowledge about it and it's very good.
He puts on the same overall, the blue gumboots and the helmet.
4. Would you say he's one person who's used to not wearing those PPEs when he's doing his work?
No, immediately if he's involved in something like a borehole he always wears the PPE.
5. Do you see him actually using his own tools when he is on duty?
Yes, he uses his own tools, for example when we were fixing this same borehole we used his tools, he
came with his own tools.
At the facility be also have tools which were given by the government. We have tools also here but he
has his own tools. He came with them when we were fixing that borehole.
Honestly, I think this time the chances are minimal. Unless maybe non governmental organizations come
in, but when it's not involved the non governmental organization the chances are minimal
An allowance, no but some programs which come, some programs are funded others are not funded, so
if we receive a program which is funded we give them some money. Sometimes it's free they just do it
for free but if we receive money, we give them.
9. Recommendations
Community champions, because I think the way the program is , we work with SAGS
They're trained by community champions, there is a program that comes if there is a workshops, maybe
a week's workshop, that's where they were trained by a non governmental organization as a community
champion.
I can say they were trained because they go for a workshop and they become community champions, so
we just work with the community, the SAGS, the pump minders, those are the ones who work mainly on
water and sanitation
12. Could there be other groups of people who are skilled but not trained?
We just work with sanitation groups and community champions, the pump minders and the village head
men.
13. Do the village head men need a certificate in plumbing and sheet metal?
Yes, I think it can help because they're very influential in the community because they are the owners of
the villages where they come from, so if they have that training or knowledge about these things, it's a
plus
14. Do you think some of them have knowledge about issues do with water in decision making?
Yes, they're village head men who are active in those, but they're also some which are not very active,
so it just depends with the village.
I don't think so
16. Are there some people you know in this community who have no formal training and education but
are there?
They're there, there are people who maybe their knowledge about plumbing and they do it, when I just
came here there was a person who had a problem with his borehole, there was a person who checked
some things but he doesn't have any qualifications or documentation.
