(3) Engage all avionics circuit breakers.
(4) Place all avionics power switches to the ON position.
(5) Connect Data Signal Display Unit to test connector on flight data recorder. (Use cable part
number 704-1046-001 contained in lid of data signal display unit.)
(6) Connect air data test set to pilot's pitot-static system. Refer to Chapter 34, Air Data Systems
Check, for equipment setup.
NOTE: This test assumes pitot - static system has been functionally tested.
(7) Place Data Signal Display Unit switches as follows:
POWER ON
OCTAL DISPLAY 12
DATA PARAMETER
SYNC B
SUBFRAME 0
WORD 01
(8) Verify that OCTAL WORD VALUE display indicates following sequences operating at a one
second rate: 1107, 2670, 5107 and 6670.
B. ARINC-542 Format Operation.
(1) Set WORD thumbwheel switches to position 14. OCTAL WORD VALUE shall indicate an
increasing octal count updating at a one-second rate.
(2) Set WORD thumbwheel switches to position 63. OCTAL WORD VALUE display should
indicate 0060.

PILOT’S ASI SYNCHRO ANGLE OCTAL MINI- OCTAL NOMI- OCTAL MAXIMUM
MUM NAL
(d) Verify that indicated OCTAL word value is between maximum and minimum for each
speed.
(5) Synchro Altitude.
CAUTION: When operating test set, do not exceed 6000 feet- per-minute
vertical speed. Regulate pitot system as required to maintain
airspeed between 60 and 355 knots.

indicate an octal value for 5000 feet from the digital air data computer fine synchro output
that is between 7750 to 0030. RECORD.
(c) Set WORD thumbwheel switches to position 23. The OCTAL WORD VALUE display
should indicate an octal value for 5000 feet from the digital data computer coarse synchro
output that is between 0156 to 0176. RECORD.
(d) Adjust air data test set for an indicated altitude of 13,500 feet, as read on pilot's altitude
indicator.
(e) Set WORD thumbwheel switches to position 05. OCTAL WORD VALUE display should
indicate an octal value for 13,500 feet from the digital air data computer fine synchro
output that is between 5500 to 5560. RECORD.
(f) Set WORD thumbwheel switches to position 23. OCTAL WORD VALUE display should
indicate an octal value for 13,500 feet from the digital air data computer coarse synchro
output that is between 0550 to 0570. RECORD.
NOTE: Satisfactory completion of these tests verifies that flight data recorder is fully
operational and establishes the integrity of both pertinent airplane transducer
systems and associated airplane interwiring.
D. System Restoration.
CAUTION: When operating test set, do not exceed 6000 feet-per-minute vertical
speed. Regulate pitot system as required to maintain airspeed
between 60 and 355 knots.
(1) Set air data test set altitude to field elevation and airspeed to minimum.
(2) Place avionics power and inverter switches to OFF position.
(3) Disconnect air data test set from pilot's pitot-static system and restore connectors to normal
configuration.
9. Inertia Switch Adjustment/Test
A. Test Inertia Switch.
(1) Remove inertia switch
(2) Connect a multimeter to inertia switch and ensure that there is no continuity. Carefully strike
inertia switch to apply a 5 "G" force. Check for continuity through inertia switch. Press reset
button and ensure that there is no continuity. Install inertia switch.
