Learning Journal Unit 5

Part 1

Answer for Q#1

I was motivated extrinsically when I was suspended from my job and made to stay at home.
Normally, I was looking for a college to attend on the side while working for the Addis Ababa
City Government Police Commission. But the officials told me not to come to the office, not to
move anywhere outside of the city, and not to spend much time moving around the city. This
forces me to be motivated extrinsically, which led me to change my strategy to seek a college
that can provide online learning. Then I started searching for an online college that offers free
tuition in my field of study. Meanwhile, I found UoPeople and joined.

Answer for Q#2

I am always intrinsically motivated for working in my field of study and makes me happy in my
life because I consider it as enjoyment. Thus, I like to learn computer science and I believe that
this can help me to work in my field of interest.

Answer for Q#3

Intrinsic motivation is a motivation that comes from your internal interest to do it. Whereas
extrinsic motivation comes from challenges you faced as of my example. I believe that being
forced to do is not more effective in achieving a goal, rather the other way round.

Answer for Q#4

I was extrinsically motivated to study online because of the problems I mentioned above. Now I
have seen what online learning looks like. I am now intrinsically motivated to learn it. So,  I am
more likely an intrinsically motivated learner.
