Definition
Logical Fallacy

• Fallacies are common errors in reasoning that will undermine the logic of your
argument. (Purdue University)
• Examples include: Ad Hominem, Red Herring, False Dilemma
Straw Man
Logical Fallacy #1

• A straw man argument attacks a

different subject rather than the actual
topic.
• Also occurs when another argument is
exaggerated in an attempt to discredit
it.
• Eg. “I can't believe you're so
unpatriotic that you want to cut
defense spending to give foreign
powers an opportunity.”
Slippery Slope
Logical Fallacy #2

• A slippery slope argument assumes

that a certain action will necessarily
lead to a chain of future events.
• Eg. “You have to study hard! If you
don’t get good grades, you won’t get
into a good college. Next thing you
know, you'll end up alone and jobless,
living in your basement when you’re
30!"
