Mily and Juliet are flying kites in the park. Suddenly a frisbee
cuts off the string of Mily’s dragon kite. Mily assumes the frisbee
belongs to Juliet and gets angry. She doesn’t want Juliet to come
to the beach. Mily’s father questions Mily if she’s sure of what she
saw. Mily thinks that Juliet must be jealous of her dragon kite.
Mily’s mother reminds her that when she was little she once
thought there was a monster under her bed but it was actually
her father! Mily’s father then remembers a time when Mily mistook
her dog, Pop for a mouse in her bed. And once, her father
mistook the footprints on the floor to be made by Mily when in
reality it was Lola who did it. Mily realises that people can
sometimes believe something that is not necessarily true. She feels
she may have misunderstood the situation and unnecessarily blamed
Juliet. She then finds out that the frisbee actually belongs to
Maceo, who did not break the string of her kite purposely. Mily
eventually heads out to the beach with Juliet and Maceo to fly
their kites again.

I felt really bad for blaming Juliet for
something that was not her fault at all.
I’m glad she forgave me easily.

Yes! Sometimes people believe things
that are not necessarily true. I think
it’s because we jump to conclusions
too quickly. Always think twice
before you blame someone.

Most of you must have been in a situation like me. I believed what I
saw and thought was right… In reality, I had not seen everything. I
shouldn’t have blamed Juliet. Maceo too didn’t really mean to break
my kite's string.

Do you have a similar story? Yes No

Who did you blame?

Why?

3. Sometimes, you may blame someone unnecessarily. Why do you usually blame
others?
I imagine things

I misunderstand the situation

I jump to conclusions

I get upset and stop thinking

I don’t like being the one at fault

41
4. When you realise that you have blamed someone for something that wasn’t
their fault…
How do you feel? Underline your answers.

Worried Sorry Sad Guilty

How do you think the other person must be feeling? Underline your answers.

Angry Upset Scared Confused

Hey, there’s something I’ve

learnt too. If I do something by
mistake, I must admit it and say
I’m sorry. If I had not hidden
behind the hedge, Mily wouldn’t
have blamed Juliet.

42
5. When you realise you’ve made a mistake, what should you do to make things
better?

I should... Circle your answer

make up a story and blame someone else

say sorry to the other person

make excuses to justify my behaviour

learn from my mistakes and not do it again

be understanding if the other person is hurt

with what I’ve done

do something nice for the other person to

make him/her feel better
