What I Need to Know

This module suggests thoughtful choices about ways to bring a sense of normality
and joy to our life that we can do at home during this pandemic. Let us fight the
present crisis of the COVID19 pandemic with the groove of our body through
artistic body movement. People from different places enjoy dancing such as in
schools, social venues, community halls, and in the “new normal” through social
media vlogs and Tiktok. Dancing has become a popular way to be active and a
healthy exercise program. With the present situation of pandemic COVID 19,
moving your body with the rhythm of the music is not a hindrance to stay fit and
active. So be ready to groove your moves exploring the different ballroom dances,
social dances and dance mixers.
The module contains:

DISCIPLINE • GOOD TASTE • EXCELLENCE
What is It

In this part of the module you will learn one of the most popular Latin Dances in
the world, the Cha Cha.

The Cha-cha is a fun, playful dance, a quick give-and-take and "chase" theme
between the partners. The music to the cha-cha usually follows a "slow-slow-quick-
quick-quick" kind of beat, though not always. The dance is almost always fast, and
the form is not rigid - the hips roll as the dancers move together.

Style: International Latin

Meter: 4/4
Tempo: 128 beats per minute
Basic Rhythm: 2, 3, 4&1, 2, 3, 4&1 (accent on count 1)

Footwork:
Steps in all directions should be taken first with the ball of the foot in contact
with the floor, and then with the heel lowering when the weight is fully
transferred. When weight is released from a foot, the heel should release
first, allowing the toe to maintain contact with the floor.

Hip Movement:
Latin Hip movement is achieved through the alternate bending and
straightening action of the knees. In the International Latin style, the
weighted leg should be straight. The free leg will bend, allowing the hips to
naturally settle into the direction of the weighted leg. As a step is taken, a
free leg will straighten the instant before it receives weight. It should then
remain straight until it is completely free of weight again.

Dance Position:
When dancing Latin, stand upright with weight held forward towards the
balls of the feet. The basic Latin hold is compact, with partners standing
slightly apart. The lady's right hand and man's left hand are joined in an
upper-hand clasp at approximately the lady's eye level. The man's right hand
is placed on the lady's shoulder blade, with the lady's left arm resting easily
on his right. The resulting dance "frame" should be sturdy and well
connected.

In this part of the module you will learn one of the most popular line dances in
Youtube and Tik Tok App, performed at weddings, proms, and other gatherings,
the Cha Cha Cha Slide. Peppy and fun, the Cha Cha Slide steps are often used in
competitive partner dance. Although the exact steps can vary depending on the
performer of the music, the basics are usually the same and they can be adapted
as needed.

The line dance was choreographed by DJ Casper. The steps were written originally
as part of a workout set for a fitness chain, but have become popular in regular
partner dance circles and now they are taught regularly at clubs and dance
studios. The song typically calls out exactly what you need to be doing, which
makes it simple. What's even better is that these steps are easy and fun to learn,
so get ready to move on the dance floor as though you own it!

This dance has simple steps and is tons of fun for dancers and non-dancers alike.
The words in the lyrics of the song will help you know which steps to do at which
moment.

mastering the Cha Cha Cha Slide line dance together with 2 to 3 members of the

You're nearly accomplished with this module!
Now, I need you to review and evaluate the ideas you have
learned to help you proceed and be able to engage in the
subsequent activity.

What I Have Learned

Activity: Dance Pyramid
In this activity, your knowledge will be assessed through the given fitness triangle
below. The two base corners indicate the contribution of social and dance mixers
to your fitness. All you need to do is to enumerate such fitness benefits you can
think of and write them inside a fitness triangle. Organize your thoughts as regards
the ideas you have written in the pyramid and write short synthesis.

Synthesis:

CONGRATULATIONS!

In the next phase, you will be challenged to apply things you just
have learned into another context. Your understanding of the
lesson will be measured by your ability to provide evidence of your
learning.
