9. A ladder has rungs 25cm apart. The rungs decrease uniformly in length from 45cm at bottom to
25cm at top. If top and bottom rungs are 2 ½ m apart , what is the length of wood required for the
rungs?
10. 200 logs are stacked in the following manner: 20 logs in the bottom row, 19 in the next row, 18 in
the row next to it and so on (see Fig. 5.5). In how many rows are the 200 logs placed and how many
logs are in the top row?
11. Find three consecutive whole numbers whose sum is more than 45 and less than 54
12. Roohi travels 300 km to her home partly by train and partly by bus. It takes 4 hours if she travels 60
km by train and the remaining by bus. If she travels 100 km by train and the remaining by bus, she
takes 10 minutes longer. Find the speed of the train and the bus separately.
13. Yash scored 40 marks in a test, getting 3 marks for each right answer and losing 1 mark for each
wrong answer. Had 4 marks been awarded for each correct answer and 2 marks been deducted for

the test?
14. The taxi fare in a city is as follows: For the first kilometre, the fare is Rs 8 and for the subsequent

find the number of articles produced and the cost of each article.
22. Two water taps together can fill a tank in 9 3/8 hours. The tap of larger diameter takes 10 hours
less than the smaller one to fill the tank separately. Find the time in which each tap can separately
fill the tank.
23. Is the following situation possible? If so, determine their present ages. The sum of the ages of two
friends is 20 years. Four years ago, the product of their ages in years was 48.
