Performer Bios

Eric Stomberg maintains an active teaching and performing schedule with positions as Associate
Professor of Bassoon at the University of Kansas, Instructor of Bassoon at the Interlochen Arts
Academy and as a member of City Music Cleveland. In the summer, Stomberg teaches at the
Interlochen Arts Camp, where he also serves as Assistant Music Director. He has been invited to
present recitals and masterclasses at conservatories and schools of music across the country.
Stomberg’s students have gone on to study at the most prestigious bassoon programs in the country
while former students also hold orchestral positions in the United States and abroad. Stomberg holds
the Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of
Music and the Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Kansas. His teachers include William
Winstead, Alan Hawkins, and Gregg Randall.

Pianist Robert Koenig has established a reputation as a much sought-after collaborative pianist and
chamber musician. He performs regularly throughout the world with many of this generation's most
renowned musicians, including Sarah Chang, Elmar Oliveira, Roberto Diaz, and Aaron Rosand.
Recent performances include Carnegie Hall in New York, The Kennedy Center in Washington,
Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Concertgebuow in Amsterdam, and the Louve Museum in Paris. A prolific
recording artist, Mr. Koenig's most recent CD of William Primrose Transcriptions for viola and piano
with violist Roberto Diaz, was nominated for "Best Instrumental Soloist (without orchestra)" at the
2006 Grammy Awards. He received both his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Accompanying from
The Curtis Institute of Music, and is currently Associate Professor and Head of the Collaborative
Piano program at the University of California Santa Barbara.

George Sakakeeny is Professor of Bassoon at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and visiting
professor at Simon Bolivar University in Caracas, Venezuela. In addition he holds the title "Guest
Professor" at the Central conservatory of Music in Beijing, is a regular coach for FESNOJIV, the
national youth orchestra system of Venezuela, and is on the faculty of Interlochen Arts Camp. Two
concertos have been written especially for him by Peter Shickele and Alexander Blechinger. He
is featured in two solo recordings, Blechinger's Bassoon Concerto with the Kiev Camerata and the
IDRS 25th anniversary CD in a performance of the Villa Lobos Duo for Oboe and Bassoon. He is a
former student of K. David Van Hoesen.

Jonathan Sherwin has been a member of the Cleveland Orchestra since 1997 and has appeared as
soloist with the orchestra on several occasions. Active as an educator, he serves on the faculties of the
Cleveland Institute of Music, Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music and Cleveland State
University. Mr Sherwin has given masterclasses at several universities and music festivals including
the Eastman School of Music, Carnegie-Mellon University and the Aspen Music Festival. He is a
former member of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, New Orleans Symphony, Aspen Music Festival
and the Grand Teton Music Festival. Mr. Sherwin received his Bachelor's Degree and was awarded
the Performers' Certificate from The Eastman School of Music, studying with K. David Van Hoesen.
He earned his Masters' degree from Northwestern University, studying with Willard Elliot.

Barrick Stees is the Assistant Principal Bassoonist of the Cleveland Orchestra. He teaches at the
Cleveland Institute of Music and the University of Akron and performs with the Solaris Quintet. Stees
received a bachelor’s degree from the Eastman School of Music where he studied with K. David Van
Hoesen. In 2005 he premiered Windows, a concerto for the bassoon by Daniel McCarthy, at the
Brevard Music Center. He has recorded three compact discs; The Romantic Bassoon, Opera
Transcriptions and Paraphrases and Nostalgica. His website, www.steesbassoon.com, offers a
