GATED COMMUNITY

INTRODUCTION
In its modern form, a gated community (or walled community) is a form of
residential community or housing estate containing strictly controlled entrances
for pedestrians, bicycles and automobiles and often characterised by a closed
perimeter of walls and fences. Gated communities usually consist of small
residential streets and include various shared amenities. For similar communities
this may be only a park or other common area. For larger communities, it may be
possible for residents to stay within the community for most daily activities. Gated
communities are type of common interest development, but are distinct from
intentional communities.

BENEFITS:
• With gated community, privacy and security is ensured.
• Traffic and speeding cars are also reduced behind the gates.
• Making it quitter and safer for children to play and ride bicycles within
these neighbourhoods.
• High building standards and strict codes that promote uniformity in design.
• High pride of ownership – good maintenance.
• Good communal spaces with amenities inside them- gated communities
are good for residing.

AIM:
• The aim of thesis is to create an integrated community which is interactive,
barrier free, secured, climate responsive, innovative and peaceful.
• To use modern advancement of passive energy techniques in design.

SCOPE:
• Designing an integrated neighbourhood
• Analysing techniques to reduce energy consumption and to do energy
efficient design from grass root level
• Adopting Barrier – Free Techniques
• Understanding the concept of affordability and design.
• Planning a smart community – residential development with all amenities.
• Adopting techniques to blend commercial, recreational and institutional
areas making it “Self – Contained Development”
• Design in harmony with nature.

OBJECTIVES:
• To create an affordable residence for all income group.
• Designing a Pedestrian and cycle friendly, barrier free design.
• Using energy efficient principles in design and make it less maintenance
needed.
• Improve standard of living by providing amenities like, Swimming Pools,
Gyms, Play Areas, Parks, Community spaces, Meditation Centres, Club
House etc.,
• Providing variety of houses like 2BHK, 3HK, 4BHK and Independent Villas to
serve different income group.
• To design place close to harmony and nature.
THE SKYSCRAPER
INTRODUCTION:
Man has always built monumental structures for the gods, including temples,
pyramids and cathedrals which pointed to the sky; however, today’s monuments,
i.e., tall buildings, symbolize power, richness, prestige, and glory. The major
difficulty, from the ancient efforts to reach heaven with the Tower of Babel to the
world’s tallest building – Burj Khalifa, has been to overcome the limitations of nature
with human ingenuity. Until the introduction of modern metal frame construction,
advent of electricity, fireproofing, and most importantly elevator, tall building
actually was not practical. Today, it is virtually impossible to imagine a major city
without tall buildings. Tall buildings are the most famous landmarks of cities, symbols
of power, dominance of human ingenuity over natural world, confidence in
technology and a mark of national pride; and besides these, the importance of
tall buildings in the contemporary urban development is without doubt ever
increasing despite their several undeniable negative effects on the quality of
urban life. The feasibility and desirability of tall buildings have always depended
on the available materials, the level of construction technology, and the state of
development of the services necessary for the use of the building. Therefore,
advances in structural design concepts, analytical techniques, and a more
sophisticated construction industry, in conjunction with the high-strength
lightweight materials have made it possible to construct very tall, much more
slender and lightweight buildings at a low-cost premium compared to
conventional construction.

BENEFITS OF MIXED-USE DEVELOPMENT:

• Reduced distances between housing, workplaces, retail businesses, and
other amenities and destinations
• More compact development
• Stronger neighbourhood character, sense of place
• Walkable, bike-able neighbourhoods, increased accessibility via transit,
both resulting in reduced transportation costs.

AIM:
• To design a bioclimatic architecture and integrating plants into skyscrapers
for a high-rise mixed-use development.

SCOPE:
• Analysis and incorporating bioclimatic design principles for high-rise mixed-
use development.
• Analysing and using new design techniques.

OBJECTIVES:
• To study how architecture contribute to the mixed-use development
• To design spaces which enhances the physical and visual interaction and
reduce isolation.
• To design spaces which bring closer to nature and harmony.
• To bring transparency, openness and fluidity of space.
• Priority to sustainable materials and functional requirements in design, while
integrating services to it.
RETIREMENT VILLAGE
INTRODUCTION:
A retirement community is a residential community or housing complex designed
for older adults who are generally able to care for themselves; however,
assistance from home care agencies is allowed in some communities, and
activities and socialization opportunities are often provided. The truth is that all of
these amenities add up to unparalleled freedom and peace of mind for seniors
and their families. Residents in retirement communities can rest well, knowing
healthy and delicious meals are being prepared for them, their apartments are
being cleaned, and their needs are being met – giving them the freedom they
have always wanted to explore and invest in themselves. These communities
give seniors a place to safely explore new interests and activities while keeping
them actively engaged in community life – all helping seniors to maintain
independence for as long as possible.

AIM:
• To create space for old underprivileged natives of the country with social
responsive spaces catering to a symbiosis relation between the old and
society.
• To design a dynamic atmosphere that encourages the creative spirit by
varied natural illumination and a play of lights and shadows in the exterior
as well as interior of the building.

SCOPE:
• Architecture and design not only reflect our cultures and traditions but
also acts as a means to shape the life style and culture in a positive
direction.
• Adopting Barrier – Free Techniques.
• All basic services to be provided through design.
• Improve standard of living by providing amenities like, Swimming Pools,
Gyms, Play Areas, Parks, Community spaces, Meditation Centres, Club
House etc.,

OBJECTIVES:
• To integrate the outdoor and indoor spaces considering the functional
aspects.
• To study the traditional architectural expression and its contemporary
aspects.
• To develop a barrier free design
• To provide properly arranged learning and practising areas.
• To develop a design that is capable of expansion in future.
• To take care pf local and low embodied energy materials.
• To use the techniques of green building, creating good and healthy
environment.
