A. Dewatering to keep excavations for basement dry and to prevent damage to the building due
to hydrostatic pressure.

B. Work in this section shall be considered as Specialist Work and as such must be carried out
by a competent Specialist Contractor.

1.2 QUALITY ASSURANCE

C. All dewatering works shall be performed and monitored by a single specialist dewatering

Engineer will not be responsible for interpretations or conclusions made by the Contractor.

G. Additional test borings and other explanatory operations may be made by the Contractor at
no extra cost.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 Environmental Requirements / Discharge Locations

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 DEWATERING

A. Provide a dewatering system, to the approval of the Engineer, which depresses the water
table

B. Within the area surrounded by the excavation perimeter retention system, below the bottom
of the lowest pit in the basement. Ensure dewatering system is in accordance with local
Authorities requirement for water discharge, standby pumps, and noise control levels.

C. Keep water table low enough to prevent hydrostatic pressure from being applied to the
basement structure, until such time as directed by the Engineer and at a minimum until all
concrete work up to and including the ground floor slab is completed.

D. Do not allow water to accumulate in excavations. Keep the bottom to the excavations dry and
suitable for other trades.

E. Prevent softening of foundation bottoms, undercutting footings and changes to rock and soil
detrimental to stability of sub-grades and foundations.

F. Contractor to provide dewatering system as required in areas where working below ground
water table. Contractor to submit method statement for Engineer’s review and comment,
prior to works commencing. Contractor to demonstrate stability of all slopes, benching
required in such excavations.

G. In pumping out excavations or in any other operation, such as groundwater lowering, which
could vary the groundwater levels or affect in any way the Permanent Works and/or nearby
properties, the Contractor shall ensure the stability and, in particular, prevent or minimize the
settlement of such Permanent Works and/or nearby properties.

H. The Contractor shall submit his proposals to the Engineer for his agreement before starting
such operations. The proposals shall include the Contractor's assessment of likely settlement
together with calculations and conditions assumed.

I. The Contractor shall take all necessary precautions to prevent any adjacent ground from
being adversely affected by loss of fines through any de-watering process.

J. Provide and maintain pumps, well points, sumps, suction and discharge lines, and other
dewatering system components necessary. Provide stand-by equipment to take over
dewatering in the event of primary equipment failure.

K. Establish and maintain temporary drainage ditches and other diversions outside excavation
limits to convey rain water and water removed from excavations to collection or run-off areas.
Do not use trench excavations as temporary drainage ditches.

L. All the dewatering works shall be complying with the set requirements as described in the
Project Construction Environment Management Plan.
