When I decided to do Masters, I had two options: either to do it in India or go abroad. Having known that Germany has
some of the world’s top class educational institutions and premier research opportunities where I can get the diverse and
holistic outlook I am looking for. Brandenburgische Technische Universität - Cottbus Senftenberg was something I have
heard of multiple times and sparked me to research and understand more about the same. I have decided this to be my first
option considering the student experiences and research news. Also, the University has eminent professors under whose
guidance, I shall be able to hone my skills and imbibe a lot of knowledge which will help me equip myself to face the world.
The University, I believe, will provide excellent academic opportunities that will help me grow more intellectually. This was
one of the primary reasons for choosing BTU. Also, with the cutting edge competition in the world today, I strongly believe
that BTU will equip me with necessary skills, connections and experiences that shall help me stand unique. Moreover,
studying at a place many thousand miles away from home and in a diverse cultural atmosphere with people hailing from all
parts of the world will surely leave a positive impression on my personality and I am really looking forward to the exciting
journey the two years ahead have in store for me.
Power Engineering in BTU interests me the most. I want to explore the field of Power Systems and be able to solve real
world problems that can have a direct impact on improving present problems faced in the Electric Power industry. Recently,
I worked as Associate Engineer - Electrical & Electronics in the R&D Division of Indra Water - A Water Treatment
solutions based company. I was working in the fields of power electronic topology designs and automation control panel
designs for high power loads. Having been keen about these aspects since the days of Undergraduation made it more
interesting and easier for me to explore things at my job. I worked on an efficient anti-parallel thyristor based rectifier for
bipolar output with polarity switching that is being used in modern water treatment plants. Previously, during my internship
at BHEL, I understood the manufacturing and design of Turbo-alternators widely used in Power generation. At ISRO, I had
a chance to learn about PLCs, multi-layer reliability systems and instrumentation. These experiences have equipped me
more to study further in the fields of Power Systems and Power generation.
In my final year thesis at college, I worked on design and implementation of gate driver for Switched Reluctance Motor. I
aimed at reducing the circuit complexity and using minimum possible position signals to drive the motor. I was successful in
developing a circuit that could run the motor with just two position signals. The circuit was based on H-bridge topology and
digital logic. The design was reliable and physical testing gave efficient outputs. The project was evaluated partially by my
mentor and partially by the panel of professors from the department and the results were verified and appreciated by the
panel. I worked for almost 8 hours a day for 5 days a week. The progress was evaluated weekly, bimonthly and one finally
by the panel. I also worked closely with a professor on understanding the HVDC transmission and present day research and
recent developments. It really intrigued me and I explored parallel inverter systems, harmonic traps and other modern
transmission techniques on which I would like to do further research.
Life is ever changing, but my love for leadership roles has been constant. I was always active in clubs/societies at my
college. I was a part of two clubs, Sigree - the Culinary club and Aura - A social initiative. I was also elected the Vice
President of the Student Council and worked in improving Student life and academic challenges faced by students at that
point of time. I played an instrumental role in changing some of the department curricula to suit industry standards and also
set up efficient drinking water supplies in hostels and food vending machines around the campus. I was also a part of
important decision making meetings and helped in bridging the student community and Administration. Later, I took up the
role as Chairperson of Breeze’20 - the Annual Cultural-Technical-Sports Fest of Shiv Nadar University. It was a wonderful
experience conducting an amalgamation of 50 events and leading a team of nearly 350 people which taught me invaluable
lessons of interpersonal skills, leadership, communication, multi-tasking and time management. I feel that BTU will give
me further opportunities to hone these skills and make it an exciting journey for me.
This program provides me an opportunity to delve further into Power Engineering. The program will also give me a chance
to interact and be a part of an amazing community of students as well as experts from across the globe will help me broaden
my horizons academically as well as personally. My experience at Brandenburgische Technische Universität - Cottbus
Senftenberg will surely help me stand out of the crowd and provide me a path to work on solving large scale industrial
problems. Thus, this program is an important stepping stone for my future career.
