SIOP LESSON PLAN

TEACHER: GROUP 2

STANDARDS: 5-6 years old

THEME: SCIENCE

LESSON TOPIC: THE SUN, MOON, EARTH AND THEIR MOVEMENT

OBJECTIVES:
- LANGUAGE:
+ New words: Sun, Earth, Moon and pronounce correctly.
- CONTENT:
+ The movement of the Sun, Moon and Earth.
+ Explain the day and night.

LEARNING STRATEGIES:

KEY VOCABULARY: Sun, Earth, Moon

MATERIALS:
- Ppt: https://www.canva.com/design/DAExrnhRJtY/share/preview?

m=link&utm_source=sharebutton
- Video: https://youtu.be/eHQwQGmYA14
- Headband with images of sun, moon and earth.
- Pencils, crayons, papers.
- Model of moon, sun and earth.

MOTIVATION:
- T let students move and sing along to the song "Sun, Moon and Stars”
- T asked Ss if they know what will be in the vast universe.
- T leads the children to today's lesson: the sun, the moon, the earth and their movement.
PRESENTATIONS:
1. Teaching vocabulary:
- T uses ppt to show pictures of objects that Ss will learn: Sun, Moon, Earth.
- T will have Ss repeat new words individually, in groups and as a whole class to make sure students have memorized
all the words. (maybe using flashcards)
2. Teaching science:
● Activity 1: Ss observe the moon, sun and earth on video (INDIVIDUAL)
- T lets Ss play the role of space explorers, go around the class and observe.
- T asks Ss some questions:
+ Which objects can you see?
+ Which one do you like the most?
+ Do you think the sizes of these three objects are the same? If different, how?
+ What will move around what?
→ As you can see, this is the Sun, the Moon and the Earth. The Sun is the biggest planet, the Earth is smaller
and the Moon is smallest.
● Activity 2: Ss observe the model of the sun, moon and earth (GROUP)
- T divides class into 4 groups and they will observe the model, see how the sun, moon and earth move.
- T lets each group share about what they observed:
+ What is this? (T points any objects)
+ What will move around what? The Earth moves around? The Moon moves around?
+ Do you see anything special about the earth when the sun shines?

→ - The Earth is moving around the Sun and the Moon is moving around the Earth.
- We can see half of the earth facing the sun, then that half of the earth will be daytime. On the other
hand, the half of the earth that does not receive light from the sun will be at night.
- During the day, we see the Sun. At night, we see the Moon.

PRACTICE/ APPLICATION:
Create some activities to let Ss participate and understand about the movement of the sun, moon and earth.
- Craft (PAIR)
T let Ss make model the movement of the sun, moon and earth
+ Ss know how to draw the sun, moon and earth in a reasonable size ratio: sun > earth > moon and then, paint and paste
them in the correct position in the available frame.
+ T asks each pair to share the product they have made and describe the movement of 3 objects.
Using the structure: “This is…., and it moves around….”
Have the Ss comment on their friends' presentations.
- Game “Move!” (GROUP)
T lets Ss participate in the game to understand about the movement of the sun, moon and earth.
+ Each group has 3 students, each child represents the moon, sun and earth.
+ When the teacher gives a verbal command to the children “ Move!”, they have to move in accordance with the movement
of the moon, sun and earth: The earth moves around the sun and the moon moves around the earth.

REVIEW/ ASSESSMENT:
- T can use games or flashcards to check vocabulary and science knowledge that Ss already knows in the lesson.
(INDIVIDUAL or WHOLE CLASS)
- T has Ss comment on their friends' presentations
- T asks Ss to turn to a buddy and tell that person what they like the most? Which one will move around it? When will it be
morning? (PAIR)
- T reads and reviews the lesson objectives. (WHOLE CLASS)
EXTENSION:
- T lets Ss discover more about other planets or some special features of the sun, moon and earth through the videos or stories.
