Types of Legal Entity

Legal Entity means a person, company or an organization that can take part in legal action and has all legal
rights and obligations. There is major 5 types of legal entities-

1. Private Limited Company :

A private limited company is a business entity with a small group of people. This is a non-government
organization. This is owned by small numbers of shareholders. Shares of Private Limited companies cannot
be publicly traded.

Documents Required for registration of Private Limited Company-


● PAN Card
● ID Proof- Passport/ Voters ID Card/ Driving License
● Gas or Electricity Bills
● Bank Statement
● Passport Size Photo
● Director’s signature on a blank document

2. Public Company:

Public Company is called a publicly traded company because a public company has sold all or a portion of
itself to public/ shareholders through free trade of shares of stock over the counter at markets or on
exchange.

Documents Required for registration of Public Company-


● PAN Card of all directors and shareholders
● Identity proof of all directors and shareholders
● Address proof all directors and shareholders
● No-Objection certificate from the landlord of registered office
● Utility Bill of the office that you have proposed as your registered office for your Public Limited
Company.
● Memorandum of Association
● Digital Signature Certified of the directors
● Director Identification Number of all the directors
● Article of Association
3. Sole Proprietorship :

A Sole Proprietorship refers to a person who owns the business and is personally responsible for its debts.
It can be operated under the name of its owner. It is also known as individual entrepreneurship, and sole
trade. A sole proprietor needs to register only his/her and secure local licenses.

Documents Required for registration of Sole Proprietorship-


● PAN Card
● Aadhaar card
● Bank Account
● Registered Office Proof
● Registration for a Sole proprietorship
● Registering as SME (small and Medium Enterprise)
● Shop and Establishment Act License
● GST Registration

4. Partnership :

It is a type of business where two or more people come together and manage & run a business. All partners
share liabilities and profits equally. There are three main types of partnership- General Partnership, Limited
Partnership, and Limited Liability Partnership.

● Partnership Deed
● Documents of Firm
● Address proof of firm
● GST Registration
● E- Aadhaar & Pan verification of Partners
● Current Bank Account-
Partnership Deed
Partnership Firm PAN Card
Address Proof of the Partnership Firm
Identity Proof of all the Partners
Partnership registration Certificate
5. Limited Liability Partnership :

Limited Liability Partnership is a combination of both partnership and corporate. As the name suggests it
protects its owners from personal responsibilities for its debts or liabilities.

● Telephone Bill
● Election Card or Voter Identity Card
