Types of Materials :

There are two types of materials: Printed / Published , Non- printed and
Authentic.
 Printed / Publised Materials.

 Textbooks

- Interpretation promote good learning

- Develop reading skills.

 Workbooks

-Supplement to the textbook


- Practice
- Develop reading and writing.
 Teachers manual
- Used as a guidance
- Helps learners indirectly
 Non- printed Materials.

- Cassette, CDs or other audio materials, videos or


computer-based materials.

 Authentic Materials

Nunan ( 1989,p.54), defines Authentic materials as “ any

material which has not specifically produced for the purpose of

language teaching.” That is to say, any materials that are not

designed for instructional use, such as: Newspaper, Magazines,

Articles, Reviews, Reports…..etc.And this what differentiate it

from coursebook materials.

Why we use Authentic Materials?

 To make language learning more enjoyable.


 To make the language learning experience more meaningful

and relevant

 To enable the learners to learn about the culture of the country

where the target language is spoken.
