Course Name Electrical Wiring

Session 1: 2021/2022

Quiz Duration 30 Minutes

Instruction Answer all questions in the answer script.

Class DEEA1 S1

Question 1 C Marks
a) Explain the differences between fuse and miniature circuit breakers 1 3
(MCB).

-Fuses consist of metallic wire normally made up of tin, lead, silver,

copper, aluminium. which melts down in the event of faults.

- Miniature circuit breakers contain an electromagnetic core with

plunger arrangement for short circuit protection and a bimetallic strip
for overload protection 1 2

b) Explain what is meant by leakage current.

-Leakage current is the current that flows through the protective ground
conductor to the ground. In the absence of a grounding connection, it is the
current that could flow from any conductive part or the surface of non-
conductive parts to the ground if a conductive path was available (such as a
human body). There are always extraneous currents flowing in the safety
ground conductor.

Question 2
a) Draw the wiring diagram of the following:

i. One light point controlled by the two numbers of the 2-way

switch.

ii. Ring connection of socket outlet (3 pcs).

Question 3
a) Specify FIVE (5) types of testing that need to be done in electrical wiring.

- High Voltage Test (Dielectric Voltage-withstand Test).

- Insulation Resistance Test.
- Earth Continuity Test.
- Leakage Current Test (Line Leakage Test).
- Live testing
