Art’s Way Manufacturing Co. said Friday that it will move its top and bottom drive au-
ger production from Salem, S.D., to its newest facility in West Union, Ia. The move will
create about 50 jobs at the 200,000-square-foot facility, which Arts Way bought last
year. Arts Way Chairman J. Ward McDonnell said the move “will help us consolidate
our material movement and allow us to ramp up staffing with the skilled work force in

Retail giant Wal-mart led a group of small businesses in the fight against tax collection
breaks for Amazon. Now, some are wondering if those same businesses could be hurt
by a Wal-Mart expansion…Last week, Haley criticized the amazon tax break proposal.
She also noted retail jobs, like those at amazon, involve high turnover and lower pay.
“retail by nature is not solid,” the governor said, adding that amazon is “not a Boeing,
not a BMW.” But on Wednesday, Haley praised the 4,000 retail jobs Wal-Mart says
will be created here. Her spokesman says the difference is that Wal-Mart did not ask

TSYS on Wednesday announced it will open a new Canadian financial services support
centre in Sudbury. The new centre will eventually employ as many as 450 people, and
is scheduled to open for operation in July. TSYS is opening the center to provide bilin-
gual (French and English) customer care servicing, in addition to risk and fraud sup-
port, dispute and chargeback servicing, collections, back-office work and a variety of
other managed services for its Canadian client base. A managing director has already

Dermody Properties and United Construction will build western US internet fulfillment
center for Philadelphia based Urban Outfitters, Inc. (Nasdaq: URBN) in Reno, Nev.
The 462,720-square-foot Urban Outfitters facility, designed to be USGBC LEED Silver
Certified, will be located at 12055 Moya Boulevard on 38.34 acres of development-
ready land in the Dermody Properties Silver Lake Business Park. Urban Outfitters pur-
chased the land from Dermody Properties for an undisclosed price. The Phase 1 build-
ing will have over 450,000 square feet of warehouse space, over 10,000 square feet of
office space, automated material handling systems and a 24/7/365 data center. A fu-
ture Phase 2 expansion will increase the facility to 895,360 square feet. Urban Outfit-
ters’ expansion into northern Nevada and the new construction project is estimated to

One of Nelson County’s award-winning breweries is planning to expand its production


facilities next year, starting with an organic brewery and barrel house in Colleen near
U.S. 29. Blue Mountain Brewery, of Afton, has chosen the Colleen Business Park as the
site for its new 10,000-square-foot facility to produce 10 lines of the brewery’s beer.
Steve Carter, the administrator for Nelson County, said the expansion will create at
least 50 new jobs in Nelson. “The decision to locate in the Colleen Business Park is an

Sprint hopes to hire 250 people at its Oklahoma City Call Center, which handles techni-
cal support for customers across the country. Base pay for the jobs begins at $12.22,
but employees can earn performance-based commissions, Sprint Spokeswoman Roni
Singleton said. The Sprint call center in northwest Oklahoma City employs about 880
people, Singleton said. About 100 of the new hires are to fill vacant positions, with the
rest to expand the staff, she said. “It’s just to kind of ramp up,” Singleton said. “We’re
doing really well in the marketplace, and we’re trying to make sure we have the staff to

First Niagara Financial Group says it will create 500 well-paying new jobs over the next
five years in New York. The Buffalo-headquartered bank says Monday the new jobs will
be located in western New York and across the rest of upstate. First Niagara is receiving
$5.7 million in state tax credits from the Empire State Development Corp. The com-
pany’s been growing rapidly over the past two years, with the number of braches in-
creasing from 170 to 346. Right now, it employs about 2,500 people. | Source

A Recycling firm says it will create 125 new jobs at a plant in Bristol which will convert
unwanted plastic into diesel fuel. Sita, which is one of the country’s biggest recycling
and waste treatment firms, already has planning permission for a massive treatment
plant at Avonmouth. But yesterday the company announced it is applying for planning
permission for a new plant which will have the capability to convert plastic containers
such as yoghurt pots and food packaging into fuel…There will be a total 208 staff work-
ing at the site, with 83 relocating from the Bristol area and 125 brand new jobs created.
The new facilities will be housed in an L-shaped building which will be approximately
25,000 square metres. There will also be parking spaces for 35 vehicles that will collect

Student property developer Manor Property Group says its new Manchester project
will create up to 180 permanent jobs in the city. The eight storey Manor Point develop-
ment, which includes 676 student apartments, retail and office space at Coupland
Street in Hulme, would also generate more than 300 construction and supplier jobs
during the build phase. Manor Property Group, which is based in Leeds, has applied
for full planning permission for the brownfield site, which it bought for £36m last year.

MORE THAN 300 new and part-time jobs are to be created in Dublin’s Dundrum
Town Centre. The jobs will come with the arrival of a number of new companies in July
and the expansion of others, and will bring the number of employees at the centre to
almost 6,000. US clothing company Hollister, part of the fashion giant Abercrombie
Fitch Corporation, will open its first shop in the Republic on July 15th. The shop caters
primarily for teenagers aged 14 to 18 at prices lower than its parent brand. |

Bradford is to get a significant employment boost with plans by one of its leading busi-
nesses to create up to 250 new jobs in the city centre. Credit firm Provident Financial is
to open a new call centre at its Thornton Road head office, where about 750 staff al-
ready work. Although the move is yet to be formally confirmed, it is likely that the call
centre for Provident’s expanding Vanquis Bank credit card subsidiary will be establish-
-ed towards the end of this year, with staff being recruited over the next couple of

MUMBAI: Infosys Technologies, India’s second-largest software exporter, plans to step


up hiring in the US, China and other overseas markets as it seeks to check rising em-
ployee turnover and boost profit. “Our customers are global, so we want to create a
global footprint” , SD Shibulal, chief operating officer, said in an interview on May 1.
We really need to get talent in the Philippines, in China, in the Czech Republic and Bra-
zil, said the 56-year-old executive, who was last week named to take over as the com-
pany’s chief executive officer from August 21. Infosys plans to hire as many as 1,500
workers in the US, its biggest market, in the year started in April and will more than
double the workforce in China in 18 months by adding a new campus in Shanghai, Shi-
bulal said. The Bangalore-based company is expanding overseas after earnings missed
estimates for a third time in four quarters and employee attrition worsened. |
