“IOT Based Smart Gardening System”

Requirement Specification (SRS)

1 Introduction:

India is mainly an agricultural country. Agriculture is the most important occupation for most
of the Indian families. In India, agriculture contributes about sixteen percent (16%) of total
GDP and ten percent (10%) of total exports. Over 60 % of India’s land area is arable making
it the second largest country in terms of total arable land. Water helps in the transpiration,
which is very essential for maintaining the absorption of nutrient from the soil.

Water regulates the temperature and cools the plant. So, water is applied externally, if
availability seems limited through soil, not sufficient to meet the requirement due to drought
or excess losses. We call the external application of water to the soil to supplement the
requirement as`Irrigation'. In India most of the irrigation system are operated manually.
These technique are replaced with semi-automated and automated techniques. The available
techniques are like ditch irrigation, terraced irrigation, drip irrigation and sprinkler system.
The global irrigation scenario is categorized by increased demand for higher agricultural
productivity, poor performance and decreased availability of water for agriculture.

These problems can be appropriately rectified if we use automated irrigation. As the world is
trending into modern technologies and implementations it is a necessary goal to irrigate home
garden time to time and in efficient manner, to give requiredsunrays and avoid extra warm
sunrays to enter in garden by light detector, to monitor this all system on IOT far distances
communication also. Many researches are working in the field of irrigation. Most projects
signify the use of wireless sensor network collect data from different sensors deployed at
various nodes and send it through the wireless protocol. The collected data provide the
information about the various environmental factors. Monitoring the environmental factors is
not the complete solution to increase the yield of garden trees.

1.1 Objective:
This study is going to suggest the method of rapid reaction and minimization of loss by
detecting the water level in ground depending on the temperature at real-time when it is been
less in the ground/farm. So, by using the Arduino, moisture sensor, temperature sensor can be
predicted. In this project we are using message to give signal for corresponding user/farmer
using Blynk application.

1.2 Scope:
The proposed system consists of less hardware as compared to the previous model hence it is
compact as compared to the previous system. It is more cost efficient; this claim is made on
the fact that the proposed system does not need the heavy and
expensive hardware for implementation. This type of automated irrigation system consumes
40-50% less water as compared to the traditional system Ideal growth condition is been
provided when small amount of water is been applied over large amount of time. This smart
irrigation system extends watering time for plants, and provides ideal growth condition. It
saves time and timer delay asper the environmental condition can be added for automatic
watering. This smart irrigation system can be adjusted and modified according to the
changing environment. It is simple to operate it starts by designing the map of your garden
and marking the location of planting

ABSTRACTION:
As India being agricultural based country water resources are short of at fatal rate aggressive
accumulation control of procurable belongings for soaking and burghal gardening. In this
project, we aim to develop a data driven sensor based smart solution to epitomize the supply
of water nutrition and sunlight for nurturing the plants/trees to resources in a practical way
for super fetch live data from soil moisture level, temperature and humidity, A micro
controller established system will charge the absolution of basic water. Agriculture plays an
imperative role in the country’s development.

In our country, more than 72% of people depend upon farming which is onethird of the
population invests in farming. Thus, the challenges and issues concerning agriculture need to
be focused to hinder the country development. The only recommended solution to this issue
is modernizing agriculture using smart technologies. IoT can construct agricultural and
farming processes more efficient by tumbling human intervention through automation.

The micro controller acceptation is programatically altered by superficial specification such

as climate prognosis and information_ center level inputs respective plants/trees. The data
collected in the process will become a archive which will be passed-down for added assay for
accomplishing system bright based on actual data/mining as the time goes on. The system
will be scalable at elongation and expiration. System single unit acts as earliest array cell.
Each system cell will be identify with its intrinsic set of parameters such as plant species code
where the unit is connected to and sensor value. government entities such as corporaion,
municipal authorities for urban forest management , farmers, farming societies and home
gardeners .Here we use client server technology with microcontroller from at mega family.

Aurdino microcontroller used to connect all the sensors together to get the
desired output.

Moisture Sensor:
Moisture Sensor will Soil moisture sensors measure the volumetric water content
in soil, which will calculate the moisture present to water the plants accordingly.

DTH11 Sensor:
The DHT11 is a basic, ultra low-cost digital temperature and humidity sensor. It
uses a capacitive humidity sensor and a thermistor to measure the surrounding air,
and spits out a digital signal on the data pin (no analog input pins needed). Its fairly
simple to use, but requires careful timing to grab data

Blynk Application:
Blynk is a Platform with iOS and Android apps to control Arduino, Raspberry Pi
and the likes over the Internet. It's a digital dashboard where you can build a graphic
interface for your project by simply dragging and dropping widgets.
